[Various] Intel Haswell Reviews - Page 36

Rough paraphrase - "Hey guys Haswell is a mobile chip any disappointment in the enthusiast line up is just sour grapes. You enthusiasts are tiny and insignificant."

Well guess what, they didn't lead the retail availability with Haswell notebooks. K series is the one being reviewed and it's what will be sold next week. Makes sense to then see how it stacks up to previous K chips. "Playing games" was in reference to the Saturday NDA lift for minimal traditional press coverage and to a lesser extent transitioning some Intel reps a few weeks before launch (good excuse to not give a company backed response to Haswell K impressions).

Sure thing boss....

A product isn't launched until made available to the enthusiast, do it yourself, market. Not when hundreds of thousands of units are shipped to dozens of system builders the world over.....

You keep on believing that.

So the simple question, Can we Overclock the LOCK CPU via BCLK?

Say a Lock 3.3GHz Haswell is 100x33 multi , can we OCed to 125x33 multi ?

because this question matter a LOT on the budget dual core Haswell later. a 4GHz+ pentium is going to be very awesome if we are allow to clock that high.

No, only K chips have the BCLK straps.
Oh well is a no well Haswell sucks! Not as a cpu but in what we all was hoping for.

Looking at nearly the reviews I came accustomed to seeing the i7-3970X 3.50GHz, the six core. Why on earth did they use the 3xxxx for naming it? I kept thinking it was ivy but its sandy rolleyes.gif

2,3,4 xxx, so if they do bring out a ivy equivalent are they going to call it - i7-4970X biggrin.gif

I may as well stick to my i7920 for awhile and see if prices are going down and see what Amd bring out , I am only a home user, I don't crunch this and that. When I get back to gaming is where it will count.

Very good processor for mobile platforms like notebooks & ultra-books. Not-so-good for desktops.

I'm gonna be waiting for user reviews and temps. If delidding can get me at least 4.8ghz, then I will bite. However, as of now I don't see this happening.

You keep on believing that.

There are no Haswell notebooks for purchase retail. There are no Haswell notebook reviews.

K series desktop Haswell will be the first to hit retail. How is that so hard for you to parse? Launch = available to CONSUMERS. Doesn't matter if it's enthusiasts or good enough types but there needs to be a way to exchange money to then physically receive the hardware for it to be launched.

"Hey guys don't talk about the performance of the product that just got reviews and will hit retail (available to some already) Monday. Instead talk about Haswell notebooks with no official performance information and a yet to be announced retail availability."

Seriously? thats the only reason Haswell exist for overclocking if didnt able to reach >4.6GHz.

coming from a Core 2 duo user here I would much prefer to upgrade my machine without adding too much budget. was thinking to replace mobo+cpu within $100 budget. If Pentium isnt capable to OC, that isnt significant upgrade. a 3GHz Pentium is more or less a 4Ghz core 2 duo.

I find it interesting that a UK supplier that I have used in the past, is selling binned CPU's with a stable 4.8Ghz overclock.
I might have to phone them and ask what they deem to be acceptable temperatures.
