I find it interesting that a UK supplier that I have used in the past, is selling binned CPU's with a stable 4.8Ghz overclock.
I might have to phone them and ask what they deem to be acceptable temperatures.
Only if those chips can run at an acceptable temperatures for 24X7 use, they are good. Otherwise, they are, well, not worthy.

On a H100 with 1.45v. Then you have TPU which only managed 4.2GHz. Something's pretty fishy here.

That chip of TPU might not be the best. It have have some heating problems in it.
From various different reviews, I can see 4770K can reach 4.5GHz or thereabout.

They haven't followed that much at all, we've gotten a similar IPC increase from Core 2 to Nehalem (Unless you count HT results, bar HT the IPC is similar) as we did from Conroe to Penryn or Sandy to Ivy. Same with Nehalem to Sandy (Which clocks amazingly, being fair) while Westmere wasn't much of an IPC improvement at all iirc.

what i meant that this time we are getting even closer to such roadmap. not that we are now at such situation, but soon enough might be in. AFAIK most TOCKs (might be wrong here) brought a bit more performance than the previous tick.

but now it almost looks that intel intentionally gives AMD the opportunity to matching them (i know it is not true). maybe they are getting board up there biggrin.gif

It's not made for existing IVB/SNB owners anyway but yet people will upgrade no matter what, like they upgraded their i7-2600K to i7-2700K. It's us who keep Intel engineering such CPUs with minor performance increase over last generation.

compete with Intel arch from 4 years ago..?
I hate 'clock for clock' comparisons but Steamroller might be able to run with Sandy Bridge while still behind in single core / IPC..
