Yo can someone explain the USB 3.0 problem on Haswell? (if there is one)

ASUS has tested a couple hundred Haswell processors at this time and this is ASUS’ specific feedback from that overclock testing.

70% of CPUs can clock to 4.5GHz

30% of CPUs can clock to 4.6GHz

20% of CPUs can clock to 4.7GHz

10% of CPUs can to 4.8GHz

Overall you will find most CPUs capable of reaching 44x to 45x with varying levels of voltage."

Hundreds of Haswell K models tested by ASUS.

If I remember correctly, they said about the same percentages for Sandy.  I never saw their data for Ivy.

Some USB drives plugged into a USB 3.0 port may not get correctly polled when the system wakes from sleep, which would force you to remove and re-plug them before they would work correctly.  Reportedly it doesn't affect all drives, and the use of a hub seems to fix it as well.  Pretty much a non-issue for most users.

EDIT ;surface area /heat dissipation is to small already for many H20 set ups

a 50% increase in IPC compared to what I have clock for clock. It doesn't look like anything out there does this for me

The iGPU is a lot better and power consumption is better. For us gamers maybe it's not much of an upgrade, but idle is still better. TTL was saying his i3 server had a higher power consumption at idle than the 4770k. For those that upgrade every gen, this makes no sense (but neither does upgrading every gen) but for those with Nahelem Rig, it looks pretty damn good. Haswell also has better Usb 3 support and better memory support.

Why make it then? Haswell was given some glory hype by Intel feeders that it would be this and that well before it came out. I myself think they struggled to add power to a shrinking die size. How much longer can you add a cpu with a gpu and expect to get smaller and smaller without heat issues. I'm no scientist but there must be a law of no returns using the same materiel

it's not really aimed at Desktops, - i was just being sour custard thumb.gif

it seems we should stop being surprised that the new gen of cpus isn't a big upgrade from something we bought a year ago, and just start being happy that our processors are lasting longer.

Cache ratio = uncore speed

It makes a huge difference in memory performance. Ideally you want to run cpu/uncore at 1:1 ratio.. some cpu will not run stable on air with uncore at 1:1 though.

Looks like I gotta tinker around some more. Only been OCing with vcore and bclk so results have been quite disappointing.
