You got, greater stock performance of more then just 3-5%.
You got 10-15% just from IPC.
You got much much lower power consumption under load and once overclocked. 4770K is like 10-15W less then 3770K.
Much greater OC and also run much cooler.

Core i7 2600K @ 3.4GHz
Core i7 4770K @ 3.5GHz

A bit better performance, a bit better power consumption, a bit better IPC, much worse temp, much worse OC, Much Better IGP.

There you have it. No progression at all. They should have not bothered to mix PC space with mobile space.

Like it or not the PC and mobile chips are going to be based on the same design.

The difference is the PC chips will be clocked higher and have a higher TDP, and maybe more features enabled. That's it.

@ZealotKi11er,... and what exactly are you going to do with all of that ??
that guy made a very good point

we don't even have the software to take full advantage of CPUs even two or three generations behind, so a performance bump isn't even needed.

you want high OC ? well get yourself some LN2 and go at it rolleyes.gif

haswell has proven to be a failure. even before release. i don't see why ppl still waste their time benching it and wasting time on it. nothing to see here. move on. overclock a laptop or something...

It may not be a worthwhile upgrade for most sandy/ivy owners, but not exactly a failure. The performance didn't go backwards, it just wasn't much of a step forward.

Would you guys say it's an upgrade from 1366, or a sidegrade at most?

If you feel like your CPU is getting bottleneck and already have H20 I would say Ivy or 2011 is very nice step up from what you have

EDIT; Intel mention lower power consumption and batter IGP and that's exactly what they did

Depending on what chip/speed you have now, it would be a decent upgrade. Although you probably aren't very CPU limited with what you have now.

Same thing with Microsoft IMO. Putting a tablet OS (Windows 8) on a Desktop was/is an epic fail. Which is why I'm sticking to Windows 7.

Especially since the only touch screens are all in ones so most of us can't even use it as intended.
Besides who would want to rub his fingers all over their display even high end phones cope with smudge on the screen you don't want that on your desktop.
