Ok, need serious help.

Hey OCers. Its been awhile.

I bought this rig in 2010, and due to personal issues, I couldn't use it until recently.

So it was pretty much stuffed in the closet for almost 2 years without it being used.

The computer seems fine and everything works smooth.

I finally try playing an online MMO, and within 10 minutes, after running beautifully, the screen freezes, and the computer restarts on its own.

I ran the game again, the screen this time, goes grey/white, speakers make that vibrating messed up noise when your computer freezes,

and it restarts again.

Any idea why it is doing this? it CANNOT overhearting, whereas I have a really good cooling system, no dust in my rig, and the rig itself

has under a year in its belt in being used. I checked the temperatures and the cpu, gpu, everything is under 60 degrees celcius.

A friend told me it maybe because I need to update all the latest drivers, and windows, and I figure he maybe correct, so i go to windows

update, but it says the stupid message, Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may

need to restart your computer. Why is it doing this?

The rig runs fine, and its quick. I never had problems with it ever when I was using it. But recently, when i first started using it again, there are

minor problems here and there that I notice. nothing major, but definitely small problems here and there I notice that is annoying.

Well, let's try fixing Windows Update first.  Press [Win]+[R] and type "services.msc" and press [Enter].
Look for "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" and make sure that its startup type is set to "Manual."  If it is not, double-click it and change the startup type to manual and click [OK].  Then, right-click the service entry, and click "Start" if it is not grayed out.
Next, look for "Windows Update" and make sure that its startup type is set to "Automatic."  If it is not, double-click it and change the startup type to automatic and click [OK].  Then, right-click the service entry, and click "Start" if it is not grayed out.
Then see if Windows Update works or not.

Thanks a bunch for the input. I found this windows tweeker thing that fixes windows problems, I can that, and it helped. Now i can update everything. Had over 200 files I needed to update....

Thing is though, I honestly think there is something wrong with the rig. Everytime I try to uninstall certain programs or install certain programs, it says some stuff like "incompatible software" or some bogus thing. Like I stated in my OP, I don't feel any severe problems, but definitely annoying, and I can feel there is a lot of things wrong.

There are so many small things that are wrong, I'd like to ask everything, but darn... Need help with the problems I stated above!!! Thanks!!!

You could try running System File Checker.  Press [Win]+[R] and type "sfc.exe /scannow" and press [Enter].
