8800gtx high pitch scratch sound?!? - Page 3

Mine is inaudible really, maybe the noise is increased in cards that are stressing the system psu, and in turn stressing the cards mosfet

I guess we will never know what it was, I went back to Fry's and bought a BFG 8800gtx, I never OC'd the vid card more then 600/950, and my CPU was like 3.0ghz at (I think 1.38)

installed the new BFG vid card, and when I load 3dmark 06, I can hear the sound very faintly now, it sounds like its comming from underneith the HSF, on the power connect side of the card, but I can't be all that sure, but it's definately not as loud as before, and plus this BFG version for *some* reason runs 4 degrees cooler, even tho its the same HSF

I have yet to hear anything from my two cards, despite the heavy load the have been in constantly (BF2142 16QAA, 16AF, 1920/1200). However, im going to go ahead and add this to the 8800 GTX thread. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. It does not seem to be effecting anyone other then the annoying sounds, which is good. My suggestions for people that have the problem would be to RMA the card... or go get some dynomat.

I have the exact same thing happen to me. I used to think there was dying fan in my case but when i first installed watercooling, i noticed that the exact same sound was coming from the card. It is this high pitched whine that fluctuates in volume according to how hard the card is being stressed. Oddly enough, when i am scanning for artifacts with atitool, the whining sound will fluctuate in volume in tune with the revolving of the cube.

perhaps the gpu chip is not fitted properly or the heatsink is not fitted properly, and it could be vibrating slightly causing the noise.

OK! To everyone with the noise problem. I had the problem as well particularly when the card was producing high FPS (IE ATItools). I called EVGA because I didn't know what it was and they said it was a transistor so to RMA it. So if you are hearing the buzzing RMA it and get a new one. EVGA will be quick to fix it for you from personal experience. SECONDLY if you hear that deafening squeek that is a speaker that was put on the 8800s to indicate that it is not receiving enough power. It doesn't hurt anything (Assuming you turn it off right way) its just a warning added because these cards are sooooo damned power hungry. Anyways GL with the RMAs and bummer that the PC is down for however long it takes for them to get the new one out.
