What's up with all these new/uncommon companies such as KFA2, Gainward, Inno 3D, etc

Hey guys. Im just curious if any of you guys have info on these lesser known companies. I mean I've seen em kinda pop up here and there but I don't know much about em

There's also stuff like Zotac, Palit, I know some of those belong to other companies like Sapphire or whatever

Anyone have some info on these lesser known companies? Wondering what the deal is. Would like to see more manufacturers if they bring something new.

I like posts like this!

I think a lot of these smaller/"new" companies are spawned as a means to centralize support to a certain region. If you look at KFA2, you'll note that they state up front that they are the "European premium brand of Galaxy". So Galaxy spun up a company based in Europe to service solely European customers.

If I remember correctly, Palit is the parent company to Galaxy, Gainward (I miss my old "Golden Orb/Sample" edition cards) and some other company. It's a massive OEM like Asus that focuses mainly on VGA products, though they are clearly not as well known in the states as Asus/Gigabyte/MSI.

Outside of the HSF assembly, I don't think we'll be seeing anything truly unique from VGA manufacturers again.

ummm Galaxy (KFA2) has been around since the 90s Nvidia board partner and they do most of their sales in Asia and Europe

Gainward's been around since the 80s and they do a lot of their business in Europe and Asia

Inno3D since the 90s and does most of their dealings in Europe and Asia

Zotac and Palit's been around for a long time too.

If you live in the USA however the biggest partners that dominate this market is Asus, EVGA, MSI, and Gigabyte. Than after you have everyone else. Most of the people you think are small really aren't and the only reason why you don't know about them is since they're not really focusing in cretin markets.

Asus is probably the only board partner with such a huge brand recognition in all parts of the market tho.

As mentioned above, Gainward is actually a pretty old player (and made one of the better Geforce 4 cards back in the day). Just doesnt market as well as EVGA or the other typical brands you see.

Actually Palit is huge...the only thing is tho their marketing is nothing in the USA and no one seems to care. Their efforts like JetStream series is nice but usually comes up short since its fan design is louder vs someone like Gigabyte/Asus/MSI

The latest statistics from industry sources suggest that the number one graphics card vendor is Palit Microsystems. They own and operate the Palit, Galaxy, Yuan, Gainward, Vvikoo, XpertVision and Daytona brands which predominantly sell only Nvidia products. They are a neutral vendor on paper but in reality they have neglected AMD in recent times. PC Partner operate the Sapphire and Zotac brands who focus on AMD and Nvidia respectively. They came in second place. ASUS is a neutral vendor and they sell both AMD and Nvidia graphics cards, ASUS slipped down to third place after being the biggest selling vendor previously.

And actually PC Partner's own Zotac and Sapphire

PNY is another player in the Flash and GPU market. They sell both GeForce consumer line and nVidia's workstation stuff like Tesla and Quadro to the consumer. Think their still sole owned and its American to boot also.

Yeah I actually knew most of this, the PC Partner and whatnot. I meant PC Partner owns Sapphire, and Zotac is PC Partner's lower end solution.

How is Palit huge though, I'd imagine US is one of the biggest markets for GPUs, and there's no way in hell Palit sells a lot of GPUs in the US... so they must be on the other side of the pond..?

If you don't market your products, I have no respect for the company. You gotta market your stuff so your name gets recognition. Palit may make good cards maybe, but in my eyes, they're a nobody.

I wonder who makes Powercolor... now THAT company is a freaking joke

Is PNY owned by anyone?

Keep in mind, Im 19, I started getting into PC hardware seriously around just a few years ago, so Im not familiar with these names as much as veterans are wink.gif

Age has nothing to do with this as we're both trying to gain some more knowledge. Stuff like this is interesting.

Powercolor is actually part of a group TUL Corporation which also owns VTX3D and others. The same group that brought you the HD7990 before it was official. And mostly TUL deals in AMD products.

As for your comments about the others, they deal in OEM also. Palit supplies a lot of people in GPU, not consumer builders like us but OEM (Dell etc etc). So they have that going for them which is worth more in the bank roll vs marketing stuff to us.

Palit is pretty big in the UK/Europe not known as a top end maker but they are cheap, good for reference cards but their aftermarket coolers are pretty sub par. I've put palit cards in a fair few builds and will continue to do so happily.

Gainward is a bit like a fancier label for palit though its not seen as high end basically buy palit and save a few £ rather than these.

KFA2 in my 2 experiences with their cards are pretty poor, we don't normally see much galaxy branding here so KFA2 is sort of the "equivalent" for us. To be honest they aren't that common in the UK now, I think they earned a bad name.

Zotac is a pretty big brand here seen as middle of the road, not bad, not great. They often offer decent factory OC's for cheaper money than others.

The "main" companies are broadly similar to the US - EVGA, Gigabyte, MSI, Asus etc
