Hey all, been a while since I have been on here. As you can see by my sig rig it has been a long time since I have been in the market.
I want to build the fastest Intel machine I can for $1750. I know this is been asked before but I want your insight and opinion on everything!

So far I am looking at this PSU:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003PJ6QW4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Yeah I know, made a ton of headway right? smile.gif

This guide is generally good to follow, however I would build it around Haswell which will be launching soon.

There is a lot I would change. That is quite a bit above your original budget, but I'll roll with it.

Instead of a single 780, you might consider 7950 CF, which is going to perform better, but cost less, or the same. Sure, it will use more power, and have the issues with CF, such as frame times, scaling, power consumption, and microstuttering, but is a very powerful alternative to the 780.

For multi-card setups, I'd go with X79 for full bandwidth of x16 x16 PCIe 3.0 for each card. Otherwise, you would be running x8 x8 on each card with Z77, unless you are going for the Maximus V Extreme with PLX chips. X79 also offers you better upgrade paths on the CPU, unlike Z77 which has no CPU upgrade after the 3770k. Instead, you get the 3930k, 3960X, and 3970X, plus all of the Xeons to look into, as CPU power becomes an issue. Ivy Bridge E will probably be on 2011, as well. While ROG boards are fantastic, they are expensive. The Asrock Extreme6 is fantastic for the price, much better than the lower-end Asrock boards, like the Extreme4, which is just terrible.

Dual-7950s will need more power; I'd grab a Corsair AX750 for even more room to upgrade CPU, GPU, etc., and a really low ripple, with high efficiency. The AX850 is actually on sale for cheaper, though, so go ahead and snatch that up smile.gif

16GB of G.SKILL Sniper 1866mHz CL9 memory is really well built, low-profile, and looks great. It's cheap, in 8GB sticks, and more than enough for your needs.

The R4 is just a great case for the price - well built, designed, and priced smile.gif

case is where I would start and fill it up. Haha. Sorry. Your not going to saturate a 8x pcie 3.0 bandwidth with today cards so I don''t think that part is a big deal. I could be wrong but Callsignvega does some amazzzzzing setups and the difference in 2.0 to 3.0n was there but the lanes needing to be longer, or more of them , wasn't exactly needed at 3.0 speeds.

If this is for gaming start with by selecting a killer gpu. at 1750 a gtx 780 will give you killer performance. An intel i7 3770k. new haswell are only a tad faster for dektops with dedicated graphics. so Ivy bridge 3770 for 229 will go well with a 780. Also if you don't know where to start avoid multiple graphic cards. Go with the best single card. get 8 or 16 gb of 1866 ram, a 80 plus power supply and the rest is up to you.

Build around the best gpu. that's my advice.

2 7950 will be a pain in the ass. Stick with a 780

MMMMmmmm not as much as you would think. The drivers are pretty solid now.

In all honesty, unless the OP is hell bent on playing metro last light at max on 1080p, then either a GTX 770 or an AMD 7970 is the smartest option available.

I would use the extra money to pick up a 2560x1440p monitor.

First thing you should do is wait 2 weeks so all the issues with haswell come out into the open, then decide whether or not you want to get a haswell build or go w/ ivy.

Actually thats exactly what I want to do, I want to turn all the eye candy to max settings. This is purely a gaming machine and maybe some video encoding on the side. I want the fastest possible I can get for around 1800 bucks. Last Light/Crysis 3 maxed as well as any upcoming games for the next year or so. I also want to be able to upgrade the proc eventually. I guess the motherboard isn't the best one, what is a good board for X79? I am kind of scared of Asrock, had bad experiance in the past...
