7970 cooling solution.

Thread Starter
Hi everyone, i have an xfx r7970 double d GPU and it is LOUD
so i'd like to do something about it.

is the Accelero Xtreme 7970 the right choice or should I go with something like a corsair H80 (i'm not sure it even fits) ??

Help would be much appreciated (:

I just installed the Accelero Hybrid 7970 on my card and went from a jet engine running load at 90 degrees with overheating VRMs to 65 degrees max dead quiet with no vrm issues. Worth it if you have the patience to install.

How much larger does the Accelero Xtreme 7970 make your card? Would it fit if you had another card below it for crossfire?

If the slots are the standard 2 slot separation you can't crossfire with accelero coolers. You need ~2.5 slots worth of clearance with the aftermarket coolers (both the hybrid and the air).

This is how you install it and how it looks

Thats my old XFX 7950 DD which i sold first thing he did was rip that crappy DD cooler off and install a Accelero Xtreme 7970

Shilka, it looks like there's not adhesive tape in that video. Is it ok to put the glue directly on the vrms?

Yep. That's what it's meant for.

Make sure to clean them VERY good with alcohol (70% or more, recommended is 95% or more) otherwise the glue will not stick at all.

I used the Accelero on my 3 7970's I had and I have to say, while core temps are super low and super quiet, VRM temps are the same / a bit worse then stock cooler. With max volts in MSI AB (1.300v) VRM's would still tap 90-95c from time to time.

Got the Gelid on my GTX680 now and it is a tad worse in terms of temps, but a LOT smaller. And looks better TBH.
