[Build Log] "Red Titan" 2xTitan, 350D, First Build in 17ish-yrs!

Well all, its time I got started.

Been talking with KpForce1 about Titans and modding them for other colours, and now that funds are rolling in, so are the parts.

Last time I built a machine was for the then new Windows 98 OS: So things have changed a little since then, so not going to go all out and watercool everything: which is ok, since I am aiming for a particular look here, and aircooled Titans look pretty darn good as is.

The Build is made up of the following:

350D Corsair Case
32gb Corsair Dominator GT RAM
i7-3820 (Note1)Upped to a 3960X
2x GTX Titan
Xonar Essence Sound CardCreative Zx
ROG IV Gene
2x 500mb Samsung 840's (Storage)
250mb Samsung 840 (OS/App)
H100i (Note2)
Silverstone Strider Gold, 850wattCorsair 1200i

The colour theme is a dark red and black: On the Titans I plan on manufacturing a new GTX logo in red, so it will glow the proper colour, as well as painting the silver portions of the housing in a dark red shade, more or less matching MDPC's Color-X, which will be used as an accent to the black sleeving that is planned.

I will be placing the Titans in Slots 1 and 4, since from all that I have read, they won't be effected by the x8 speeds of the PCI-E 3d gen slot that is the forth. It will also allow me to install not just a sound card, but a gap under the fan for it to intake cool air easier.

Not all the parts have come in, in fact, it will be a few weeks before the next batch, and a few weeks after that for the next, and so on. So not going to be the quickest log out there.

Note1: Only going with a 3820 as a placeholder: This winter I plan on going either IB-E, or, if the rumours are right, the 3980x 8 Core chip.

Note2: Picked up a H100, but been hearing I would be better off with the 100i model, if those that know both are out there, if you all could chime in and let me know if its worth it, let me know. After all, the primary reason I am trading up to the 100i is the fact that the logo can glow red on it, and not on the 100.

Update as of 8SEP14:

As noted in the pics already presented, using a Corsiar 860i when I built this, since been upped to a 1200i as I still have hopes to put everything under water. I've upped the CPU to a 3960X a while back, as well as picked up a Samsung 4K Monitor. Blown up one of the Titans Folding: replaced it, and now have a separate bench rig running a Titan Black doing naught else but fold: this way I can use all the horse power for games instead of just one card.

Xonar Essence STX or Essence One? Because with the former, that's going to be such a tight fit that the acoustics and EMF is going to affect your Essence STX since its going to be so close to the Titans, which kinda defeats the purpose of an internal sound card.

Thats still up in the air, since I haven't purchased it yet, I still have time to adjust. I am pretty sure I need a card with some sort of shield on it since it is resting between the two Titans, and I am limited to PCIE slot cards, so I can't use an HT Omega Claro that I would prefer: So, if you have a better suggestion, I am all ears. smile.gif

Well, 17ish years now that I did the math... Math was always my bad subject...

You could theoretically get a PCIe x16 extender and mount the second GPU in a non-standard position away from the Essence STX while allowing it to maintain distance from your GPUs. Rule of thumb with sound cards it to preferably have at least 1-2 slots between it and your GPUs imo.
