'Ere we go.. 'Ere we go...

Right! Time to tear apart the card. I won't go into much detail on the takedown, as there is plenty of places to find the steps. Just be sure: there are a metric ****ton of screws in this thing, and they are all loctited like nothing else.

At any rate, there is 5 separate part parts to the shroud, and you need to mind the cable for the LED. Once its apart, it looks like this:

Now the plan was this: Those silver bits are all going to be painted a somewhat dark red, along with the fan rings. I might paint the heat sinks on the RAM as well, but the jury is out on that. Then, I was planning on casting a new Logo, and attach the led to the new logo, and having a nice red Geforce GTX on the side of it. Well, as I feared, not as easy as I thought.

What it is, as far as I can tell, is a LED board, with a rubberish lettering made of two colours molded together. On the back of the board is a pair of wires soldered to the board, and then the whole thing is wrapped in tape, trimmed where the letters are.

So... not anywhere near as easy as I had hoped. Going to have to think on this. And for those where your GPU's are upside down? Its not as bad as it looks... but for one thing.

Now, if you look at the three tabs, those are what holds the log in place between them, and the outer piece. To install the logo upside down, you will have to do two things: You will have to remove the end off of the wire, and extend it, and reconnect the end so it will reach: an extension is out of the picture because of a lack of room for the connectors. The second thing is that the first tab from the right, is too close to the port end of the card: you'll have to trim away the front half or so of it in order to make room for the wire leads. But even where you to do all that, you are stuck with the fan casting itself: no way I can see to flip that around. The only possible way to do something along those lines is what it appears to be required for my project: Trimming away the insides of the cutouts, and casting up a new piece that fits in. At that point, have to come up with a way to attach LED's in there, without them getting in the way.

Only way to do that that I can think of is casting the logo with the LED's *in* the resin, or making the new logo super thin.

Either way, this is gonna take some thought.

I'm going to guess the geforce logo is lit by a strip of EL tape from the evenness of the glow but this is as far as I've seen someone tear it down so it very well could be LEDs.

Also I'll vote for plain heat sinks, it'll give a nice contrast to the red on the shroud.

Looking good thumb.gif

Nice looking build! I've always wanted to see someone change the color of the Geforce logo on one of their cards. I'm interested to see how this'll work. biggrin.gif

Yeah, when I first saw it, I was thinking on how to pull it off. The issue I am seeing as I have been looking it over, is that all the ways I can think of to dupe it, has a high chance of being destructive to a degree to the original. I wish I could take it down further, but with the Rubber part being bonded to the LED strip, the only way to go further is to destroy one of them... not sure I want to go that far just to find out.

So... anyone who waterblocked a titan want to donate to science? smile.gif

I would recommend that you ask in a new thread or in the WC thread. Those will get much more traffic and a faster response smile.gif

Thanks for your vote of confidence, and welcome to the Forums!

And that looks like it will be quite the little powerhouse - show it off when its done by all means.

Now, on topic: Here is where I am sitting at when it comes to the logo. What I will do I think is do casting, with as thin of rear plate as possible out of nearly opaque red resin. To the back of it, I'll attach some sort of LED or EL strip to it as long as it is the same thickness. Which is critical.

Now, I do have a backup plan that I do *not* want to do, and that is leave the logo Green, and tie it into the build in some sort of way. Only possible way is to use two SLI bridges to connect the cards, and plate over them and affix a metal bug*, whose green and gold colour would at least allow some sort of tie. Lets hope it doesn't come to this.

* The Bug is the Regimental Badge of the 3d ACR, which amounts to the centre portion of the patch in my Avatar... which, to be fair, looks like a bug. The biggest, baddest moth******ing bug in the valley. wink.gif As you can tell, I spent time in the Regiment.
