if you wanna drop a grand on a quad core then yeah its worth it but AMD's coming out w/ their native quad core in a few months, so i'd wait for that piece of gold

4x4 will get pwnt until they work out the bugs. then when you can get a 4x4 quad core setup it will definitely pwnt

remember, all kentsfield is is two cores glued onto one die.

The issue with 4x4 what I see is that it's on it's own socket (1207, but with 'regular' DDR2 RAM), and not on the mainstream AM2 socket, which will be further developed.

With two dual core CPUs, 4x4 and the quad core (double dual core) Kentsfield should perform about the same at stock, but the Kentsfield will be the better overclocker. 4x4 is still on the K8 architecture, so it'll likely clock not much higher than 3.0GHz, while Kentsfield can hit quite a bit more.

What is your budget?

PS: Mudd, Kentsfiels is four cores . Two dual cores glued on one die. But heck, it works quite good

I'm waiting for K8L myself where real dual-core will be implemented! Otherwise, moving on topic, I'd get an Opty 165. Usually newegg has a decent stepping.

pretty good pretty good. now you need to set your memory timings.

is your corsair ram the c2 or the xl? because if you have TCCD or BH-5 you can rocket your memory and get 25-27 second 1m times on superpi.
