Decent internet speed?

Thread Starter
I just used speedtest.net with 3 computers and several mobile devices connected, and this is the result. I have no idea how to tell if this is good, bad or okay. I'm connected via the Edimax USB dongle.

You have a dang disgusting upload speed. I am lucky to get .5Mbps up. Your download is about average.

with that ping, you may get faster - try testing on a few different servers. I get better results from servers in england than i do with ones nearer me. It depends what network speed the test server has. smile.gif

Well, as I can see, you're in Scottland, so it's much closer to you then I am. The NYC server is about 10 miles from me, and it's one of the best in the US. I'm also currently using a crappy USB network dongle, so it's not as fast as wired. I hope to have my wired connection set up within the next 3 or so weeks, so I'll test that too.

smile.gif yeah, a wired connection will be far better - it'll remove any limitations set by the wifi / USB port. The test is always best done on a wired connection.

Oh and when I said I try servers in England - I wasn't meaning for you to try them! lol! But try a few around the states - I've had better results for European servers sometimes (IE Germany) than ones in Scotland! I was just trying to point out that location isn't always key, rather the speed of the connection between you and the server, and number of hops. That's why I can get better results from some European servers than I can from my home country.
