I make a mean french-press. Or maybe you prefer a hand-crafted shot of espresso? I tweak on coffee (pun intended).

Is it felt that the team as a whole makes proper inital contact with new folders? I would not dispute a "yes" answer but we have always rolled out the welcome mat for new folders.Perhaps we come up with a contact method for guys already active for 6 months. Are we working on the idea that if they are having a problem they will say something? It is at times nice to get an email from a team member asking how they are doing, if they are having an issue with anything, simply contact so as they do not get lost in the stats chart. I can recall times where programs like the HP (I think it was HP) equipment use plan came and went so fast I did not get a chance to participate.I know that if a guy takes the time to really read the forum posts he can keep up.The trouble is finding the time to follow the posts on the forum.

You'd be surprised at the offense people will take to unsolicited PMs, Haha.

I'm not saying its a terrible idea, but if somebody does do it, they better be prepared for that 1 in 10 that rips their head off for sending them a PM.

Those are depressing odds. sad-smiley-002.gif

I would think that a community that is folding (actively making a donation to scientific cause) would be a rather warm and receptive bunch to outreach from other members. You do bring up a point though.

I sometimes make "cold-calls" to some of my customers at work to check-in and see how their bike is doing (I'm a professional bicycle mechanic and suspension tuner/builder). It is true you get the "whaaaaa??? you trying to sell me ****?!?!" response every so often.

Point taken. Do you think it is worse, better, the same to get a letter by mail from someone you do not know? There is something different in getting an email by surprise over a letter that just appears in the mailbox. I have often wondered why people take the time to obscure or cut out the section that contains their name and address on magazines they donate to their favorite Doctor's office. I am just looking for a way to set our team apart from others.

People are weird about privacy, even though they really don't have much.

I'm always open to new ideas about making folding more fun for team 37726.  I think we should bring back the "Folder-Of-The-Month", and dedicate a thread to a particularly helpful individual that month, or somebody who passes a great milestone, or something.

I will not present a negative attitude towards any idea presented in this area. I do like the Folder of the Month idea.

There was only like 2-3 nominations and I didn't feel like it had enough interest to continue it
