Budget system just for web browsing, and word documents.

Thread Starter
I currently have a gaming rig with an i7 2600k, gtx560, water cooling the whole 9 yards.

I quit gaming because I have found other things to do with my life and gaming just isn't something productive so I quit.

I am trying to sell my gaming rig and buy something that is sufficient enough just to browse the web, watch youtube, maybe type up a few word documents and such.

So If I am looking on ebay, used parts or new, what would be the cheapest system that will just be enough for web and typing documents, but won't make me say damn this is extremely slow?

I was debating on building the PC or just buying a cheap desktop from bestbuy with my employee discount, but there isn't much of a discount because the computers don't have much margin.

What can you all recommend?

Thanks

Putting together lists of parts is like a hobby to me thumb.gif

Cheap but solid case (from what I've read), quality is assured because it's Corsair who have a good name to uphold. Reviews are great too. Don't have this so I can't say for sure, but it's a good bet that it's a quality case and it's cheaper than a game.

Motherboard does what you need it to do.

You might be thinking the FX 6300 is overkill for your internet browsing and word documents, but really, spend the extra few dollars and get something that will keep you satisfied for the next several years rather than cut back now and have to spend more money sooner. You might also suddenly find things that you'd like to do which require the extra processing power, just like you found other things to do besides gaming.

The hybrid HDD/SSD has a great balance of performance and capacity, and while it is slower than getting a real SSD for a boot drive and a regular HDD for storage, it's a lot cheaper too. I think it'd be perfect for you, good start up times, fast, plenty of storage for your documents and crap downloaded off the net, as well as songs or movies you may want.

The power supply will give you plenty of headroom and Seasonic make very high quality power supplies, so it's chances of failing or having issues are minimal.

You don't even need an optical drive these days, but IMO it's still good to spend $20 just in case. It's cheaper than the food at my school cafeteria.

Windows 7 is the way to go in my opinion. Don't even bother with Windows 8, and I have no experience with any other OS except for Linux, which was when I was 10(?) and looked at it for 5 minutes before going straight back for Windows, so I wouldn't know anything about it.

Or yes, you could just keep your current rig.
It's really not much of a gaming rig now anyway, more of a media PC.
