Upgrade from FX-8350 to i5-4670K?

Thread Starter
Hi, with the launch of Haswell, I thinked that I can change my actual PC to a new PC based on a 4th. Generation Intel Core Processor, specifically a Core i5-4670K.

My actual PC is:

  • FX-8350
  • Crosshair V Formula
  • 2x4GB Kingston HyperX 1600MHz
  • HD 6770 (I will buy a GTX 660Ti)
  • TT 500W (I will buy a NZXT Hale82 750W next week)
  • WD caviar blue 500GB
  • Corsair Hydro Series H60 2013 Edition

I want to change it for this:

  • Intel Core i5-4670K
  • Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC
  • G.Skill 2x4GB 2400MHz
  • GTX 660Ti
  • NZXT Hale82 750W
  • Seagate 1TB
  • Some 60GB Sata III SSD
  • Corsair Hydro Series H60 2013 Edition

What do you think? I will use it for Basic 3D Rendering (Sketchup + VRay) and gaming in 1920x1080... Thank you!

P.D: Sorry for my bad english...

To be honest that i5 will be more of a sidegrade, its neck and neck with an 8350. i would use the money to instead to get a better video card. Unless of course that i5 is better for the software you are using.

AMD has a couple of nice CPU's being released, FX-8770/FX-9000. Might want to hold onto that 990FX board and see what happens. In the meantime, I would just spend that money on a nicer GPU (maybe even nicer than a 660Ti, if it's for gaming). Better cooling (not really sure how far you can take an 8350 with just an H60 - but @ 4.7/4.8GHz the 8350 is a decent chip). Grab some faster memory (2133MHz is a nice sweet spot), and a better PSU.

If you can afford it get the new one...and keep your old one. The scaling for the RAM on the FX is rediculous...that'll save you more than a few bucks in the long run. But a Radeon 7950 is a steal at 300 bucks go figure biggrin.gif

Because you do 3D Rendering I'd say keep the octacore
