"New" Computer Build for 2013

Thread Starter
Sometime during each year I upgrade my computer, more specifically, the weakest/lowest part in the build. Due to the way my last setup is done, I cannot upgrade anything unless I essentially buy a whole new computer. I have a budget of $500, and I would like to know if there are any parts that would suit my need better than listed. I will mostly be using this for gaming, photo/video editing and web browsing. I want the best performance, but without going over $500.

"zschaffer.mk5" Build List:
Case: Raidmax Blade ATX-298WY ($50)
CPU: AMD FX-4100 @ 3.6GHz ($100)
GPU: XFX Radeon HD 7770 1GHz Super-Overclocked Black Edition (Already Owned)
HDD: Westerm Digital WD Blue 1TB ($70)
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 ($70)
PSU: Antec 500W Certified Bronze (Already Owned)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB CML16GX3M4A1600C9

I'm coming from this build.
"zdchaffer.mk3" Build:
Case: Raidmax Tornado
CPU: AMD Phenom II x2 555BE @ 3.65GHz
GPU: XFX Radeon HD 7770 1GHz Super-Overclocked Black Edition
HDD: Western Digital WD Blue 500GB
MOBO: Biostar N68S
PSU: Antex 500W Certified Bronze
RAM: G.Skill DDR2 8GB

I have to have my GPU and PSU shipped across the country from my relatives. I have the boxes for those but the HDD doesn't have a box, and its probably not a good idea to ship it.

For a start the Bulldozer CPU you chose is pretty much awful, and your phenom ii will outperform it in some tasks.

I would use these parts for best performance, but I'm leaving case to your preference, make sure you have good airflow though

Don't get an FX-4100. That's actually a downgrade from what you have now in a lot of use scenarios. A Bulldozer is way slower, clock for clock, than a Phenom II. You'll have to overclock that chip to about 4.2 GHz just to get it even with your Phenom II. An FX-4300, 4350 or 6350, all based on the improved Piledriver core design, are all much better choices.

An FX-4100 would only be a reasonable upgrade for someone moving up from a Sempron or a first-generation Phenom, or something older. Even then, it's overpriced at current market prices.
