Should I Stick With a Single 670 for 1440p? - Page 2

Not for 1440p.
Your 670 is sufficient, i'd grab a 2nd 670 to keep the FPS up.
3-4 GB only starts becoming interesting in eyefinity resolutions.

Something I just grabbed from the 770 topic:

500x1000px-LL-6d23bdcd_BF3_01.png
500x1000px-LL-2c36c60b_BF3_02.png
Even at 3x 1050 res the 2 GB still manages to keep up.
Just when you go a lot higher 2GB cards start to crumble, but honestly who plays at such resolutions?

P.S. I have a 1440p QNIX screen on the way and another 670 tongue.gif

I bought a Asus PB278Q 1440P monitor and i had a single GTX 680 and i found it had problems with demanding games so i threw another GTX 680 at it and problem solved

There is no single video card that can max out all games in 1440P

Anyone who says a 7970 Ghz or GTX Titan can does not own a 1440P monitor and dont know that they are talking about

The answer to 1440P is this

I'm not quite sure why everyone is so adamant about a 384 bit mem bus. Going to a 7970 gives you a 384 bit mem bus... and comparable performance. Sure if the GTX 680 had a 384 bit mem bus and loads more bandwidth it would be faster, but having a card with a 256 bit bus doesn't mean your games will instantly run like crap.

My 660 SLI setup struggles with 1440p in some games. Single card 780/Titan might give you the performance you want, but you really need 2x 670s minimum for 1440p.

You need more GPU power, not more VRAM.

I am so tired of the constant "7970 rulez b-cuz it has 3GB VRAM and 384bit bus" when ever anyone brings up 1440p. The fact is that the GCN architecture is vastly different from the Kepler architecture, and the reason for each having a given bus size is due to the way in which these cards process data. You cannot directly compare the amount of memory between two cards of different design.
Kepler is simply more efficient at managing it's VRAM, while GCN takes a much more brute force approach. The end result is very comparable performance at all but the most extreme resolutions, in which case neither card will provide you with a very playable framerate anyway.

I would suggest getting a second 670 for SLI, as you will have more than enough GPU power to run 1440p. When you factor in the greatly reduced need for AA, the most memory sucking effect, you will find that you can run pretty much anything maxed out.

Sure, a pair of 780s will perform better, but I don't really think that the increase is worth the cost when you will just have to upgrade again once next generation games hit market.

From what Ive seen you need 2 670s at least (4GB preferable) to run games at 1440 on highest around 60 fps

1440 is about twice as many pixels as 1080 so it makes sense you would need twice the gpu power and twice the RAM

Same here i tought proved that raw GPU power and not more VRAM / higher bus was the way forward with 1440P but i guess not

Op, I do not play BF but I do play Skyrim with quite a few HD mods at 1440 on a 7950 at ultra and it does not struggle.
