[CNET] Windows 8 vies with Vista, but Windows 7 gains - Page 15

I actually love those features too, but those + the boot time and security really isn't worth upgrading from 7 over.

It's the Ivy Bridge of OS', IMO...If you need to buy new or are running something older, go for it, but if you're running the last gen then it's not really worth it unless you can get it cheap.

Not really, the slump only really took over when 8 had launched, the market had plateaued before but not stopped or declined like everyone seems to believe.

Unless you want to try and tell me that people are just going to write their CVs and the like up on a tablet.

There's also the fact that Microsofts ads just plain suck, they're ripping off Apple big-time but missing the point...Even decidedly average consumers that I know are saying that.

You know, I've heard these arguments so many times but never seen actual proof. Care to prove it? I've never seen proof, even though I'm bouncing between 7 (TAFE PCs) and 8 (Home desktop and laptop) all the time and I'm more used to 8 than 7 at this point.

Exactly what I'm talking about. The reception has been anything but reasonable. Most people who talk trash haven't even given it a real try. You can tell too rolleyes.gif

I agree but, I don't believe it's their ads. It's just the way Microsoft handles their image and the way their marketing team seems to work. It's just absolute garbage and one of the many reasons Microsoft has been going down the drain.

Which part? Because I can absolutely understand people being unable to change. What is unacceptable is people's reaction to Windows 8. Windows 8 has it's virtues and it's a very nice OS. Disliking and being unable to use the UI is completely different from outright stupid hate that people have been responding with. Incredibly immature and unintelligent. If something just isn't your cup of tea do you smash that cap and talk crap about it?

I hated it until I tweaked it, and now I have a hard time going back.

I have yet to touch metro on my sig rig and I plan keeping it that way.

Most of the polls leading up to the release of Windows 8 that I saw showed a pretty clear 50/50 split (ignoring ones that are undecided/haven't used it). So... what majority are you talking about? It's just the hate half tends to be much louder.

The security features don't mean much to most users here (If you run an AV, Adblock, Firewall, etc then I doubt most of us power users would really have to worry, although it is a boon for normal users) and the boot times are barely any faster than 7 when you compare both OS' after being slimmed down and on an SSD.
Plus, with security...You can polish a turd all you like.
Honestly, those arguments also apply to going to Linux...It boots faster than 8 or 7 does for me and is more secure than WIndows 8 could ever hope to be.
TIL, ~15.7% is equal to 5.2%. (At best)

So you're running Windows 8?

What exactly is your problem with it? I have found it to be really fast, nice security features. Boots up quick, games run excellent, drivers just install no fuss (Had loads of probs with Nvidia drivers not installing on Windows 7.

Is their a real reason you don't like Windows 8?

Same here, moved from Windows 7 (Which was awesome) to even more awesome Windows 8. Couldn't go back to 7 now, Windows 8 looks so much better, uses less resources to. The task manager as well lol. biggrin.gif

Screw CNET. Screw Engadget, Vergee, everything else that gave Windows 8 a stupid review because they didn't "like" it. Exactly why we can't trust review sites these days. Too biased and too obsessed with view counts.
Not following the media - just came to similar conclusions .

What about all the people still on XP? Most of its corporate or POS terminals that won't shell out the money to upgrade.
