[CNET] Windows 8 vies with Vista, but Windows 7 gains - Page 4

There were lots of nice features that could be easy to adapt to (i only used it for about 1 hour). But honestly Ubuntu is harder to adapt to and its pretty easy after you use it for about 3 days (4-5hours per day)

I still wish that I could have experienced Windows XP Pro 64 bit. I used the non pro edition 32 bit with a pentium 4 1.60ghz (store said 2.0:mad:) with 2ghz of ram and did all sorts of things. So i can say MOST computer users DONT need more than that. Windows 7 Professional is nice but I had to switch to Ultimate for the language packs (I play alot of Japanese games).

All I know and can say for a fact: Dont bash something until you have tried it (unless its proven to be dangerous); because of pointless negative bashing by media and others, I missed out on Grand Theft Auto until last year (Im 20) and rock music until I was 14.

Most of us aren't actually bashing W8. We aren't (the sensible ones at least) are not claiming it is inferior to W7 from a performance and security perspective. What most of us are upset about is the fact that such a dramatic change in UI is not optional. Considering W7 is still such a great OS and still running the UI a lot of us prefer, why change? If MS wants us and many, many others to change to W8, then the onus is on them to convince us to. Our wallets, our choice. I have a legitimate copy of W8, but I am choosing to not use it. I recommend other family members not to use it because they are adverse to any kind of software UI change. Also remember that for a general consumer, UI is often directly to superiority in an OS unless OS is just that much faster with W8, while faster is not appreciatively faster than W7.

Windows 8 is really not bad at all. The improvements out of the box for multi monitor is awesome, the start menu shouldn't affect any power users AT ALL as most power users hit the Windows key, and then simply type what they want to run. Who actually "navigates" their start menu anyway?

The OS is fine. The loss of Aero hasn't affected me at all. "Flat" is going to be the new in, and Apple's iOS is reported to reflect that in its newest approaching iteration as well.

I loved Windows 7, I love Windows 8. Both are stable, both are fast. They're slightly different... and people fear change.

Was forced to use windows 8 for 2 weeks. I went from disliking the new ui, to hating it. It is just horrible. Period. Was forced to install linux, tried the new gnome ui not bad. Changed to KDE and fell in love with it.

All of them where completely new UI's to me. KDE knocks it out of the park for touch enabled screens. Windows 8 is just sad and horrible to use.

Yep I understand that logic and its a proven winner. But in this case they were silly-billys and should have foreseen it. The start button/menu is the trademark of Windows. Its what made the brand.

Ultimately, I don't care what operating system other people are using.

I got Windows 8 for $40. Good enough for me.

Fear change? Who actually "navigates" their start menu anyway?

My guess is the MAJORITY do. That is why W8 isn't selling! PC with W8 aren't selling! And tablets with W8 aren't selling!

Stop thinking that you guys that support W8 are so great at adjusting and evolving to new software so something. W8 is a major fail plain and simple. That is why 8.1 is coming out because customers and companies aren't happy. Too bad that it makes you guys look bad. W8 will never be successful. All MS had to do is give options to customers, like to add or take away the old start menu. That way everyone would be happy. They would have sold so many more OS and better press. Don't blame people that don't want to move to 8, blame Microsoft for treating their customers like trash.

Ive got a Samsung 2012 Ultra-book with Windows 8 and all i do is surf the net and watch movies. but the 2 biggest things that drive me bonkers is when i slide my finger of the touch pad when scrolling and viewing webpages it flicks into Movie player or Start window menu thingo page. And the second one is playing movies. even though i right click and select i want the file to always be played with media player of my choice it still reverts back to the Windows 8 version. OMG its annoying. Anyways im sure their are fixes for it that i can manually do. Its just the way the PC industry is going we have to hack things to get them to run how they should.

Why in the hell is that so amazing? A UI is a subjective matter, not an objective one. With anything subjective, there's always going to be people on both sides. You should never adopt such a narrow-minded view.

Multimonitor support is significantly better in Windows 8. Native ISO mounter is also very convenient.

Being sent to the Start Screen while scrolling seems like you're unknowingly activating gestures.

Also, the quickest fix for disabling Metro apps is to simply uninstall any unwanted Metro application. Yes, you can uninstall any of those stock apps, right from the Start Screen or All Apps menu.

Anyways... this thread is amusing... Windows 8 went up in marketshare and still being called a failure...

The PC market in general is down. Not just Windows 8. If it was just Windows 8, XP usage wouldn't still be so high. People just aren't buying PCs.
