Overclocking a q6600 Core 2 Quad guide?

Hello everyone!
I am looking for some help with my slight dilemma, I own an Intel Core 2 quad q6600. My motherboard is an ASUS P5KPL-CM. I also have Corsair XMS 2 2x4gig RAM. How would I be able to overclock this to about 3 GHz. Even more If I can. I am oblivious to overclocking in the BIOS but I think I will be able to follow a guide. The reason I want to OC is because I own a 660 TI and I would like to play games like Far Cry 3, Just cause 2, BF3, Basically the new games out now. (yes I know that Just cause 2 is old but it runs slow in cities.)
Thank you for all the help and If you have any questions I am here to answer. I also will list the specs in an organized form under this thread. Finally I am not going to OC until I find a good cooler that would keep the CPU cool, I am using a stock cooler and that will just not do. Do you guys know of any good coolers for an LGA775?

Intel Core 2 Quad q6600
ASUS P5KPL-CM Motherboard.
Corsair XMS 2 DDR2 RAM @800 MHz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 TI SC (EVGA)
450W PSU
Antec Nine Hundred Case (4 Fans on High setting)
Cooler ___

Thank you very much!

if i remember rightly when i had mine i just went into the bios and upped the core clock to 333mhz to give 3ghz and upped the voltage by 0.020v this was stable on my processor (same one)

but everyone's processors are different so may require a little work.

the hyper 212+ evo i belive is good for 775

Need more info than what is posted as it does not show the volts you're running in bios. With a stock cooler you won't get much. Stay below 71*C for longevity. I believe what is reported in core temp is actually 10*C hotter than your actual (If you're using that program). The G0 stepping has difference of -10*C. You'll need to confirm. Other than that I would run 8*400 with a 1:1 for 3.2 rather than 9*333. Don't exceed 1.5V. You can pretty much figure the rest out.

1.240 might be your VID? If so that's pretty good. You should have a nice chip. No guarantees though. For what it's worth I was able to hit 3.2 @ 1.225 volts (My VID/Stock) and had no heat issues. It's above 1.35+ you'll start getting really warm.
