Need Advice First PC Build - gaming (and some modeling) - Page 4

G. Skill makes the Ripjaw series yeah, in all kinds of pretty colours to match your mobo or other components.

as for the Sata question, its just another standard. so Sata 3 is faster than sata 2, but its just increasing the size of the pipe for data to flow through. a 7200 RPM drive can still only push data through at a speed of X, wheras the SSD will push it through at a much faster Y.

If you do love uber graphics over FPS then i would definately get the 780, its got more muscle to push the extra textures and polygons.

I honestly dont think you will notice much of a difference between 4.2 and a 4.5, in anything but a benchmark at any rate. The lure of new/shiny is definitely strong, but id take the 2600k and use that. absolute worst case? you need to upgrade to the 4770k, and then you can build a cheaper computer around the 2600k for a backup computer. use it for folding or perhaps use it as a "work" computer for the Machinima movie building, leaving your main rig free to do anything you chose.

All in all, you have a pretty sweet setup. any info on the periferals? mouse/keyboard, screen, etc?

You have good friends! It seems like you have a lot of the core components available. If someone is willing to give you a 2700k, take it. No need to have latest and greatest for very marginal performance, especially if you're new to building and pc's in general. Now that Haswell's been released you should be able to find a decent z77 mobo at agood price. If you like bells and whistles and want to oc, Asus Maximus line is the way to go. G.skill makes great ram. I have 3 sets: Ripjaw 1600, 2133, and trident x 2600. As for gpu's, there is dinately a lot of fanboism. Both AMD and Nvidia make good cards. Look for best price to performance ratio. AMD 7950's and Nvidia 670/770 fall into that catagory. I personally would rather pay $500 for a 7970 than $650 for a 780, escecially if you want to oc. Seems like you got a lot of feedback. Just sift through the bs and fanboi stuff and make some rational decisions. Good luck!

Our pleasure Buster! You are going to enjoy your computer. Perhaps a build log is in your future? or at least a few pictures so we can see all the hard work in shiny metal and plastic glory. thumb.gif

Oh dayum M3nta1. I could do that for the lulz the mess of my cables alone would give haha. Sure. I'd be happy to post the progress smile.gif This is fun but a little scary too lol.

Just double check everything is plugged in the right way, check all the motherboard standoffs are in the right place, and ensure everything is facing the right way before you install it. Do that, and you will have smooth sailing all the way through the build. And theres always the OCN Cable Management Club to help you hide your cables away to get that clean look everyone likes. thumb.gif

Hi everyone - I started building my new rig, but the Kraken x60 will not fit the 1150 motherboard. An nzxt rep confirmed this and said they'd be thinking about making an adapter plate to fit the 1150. So... Do not get the Kraken x60 for your Haswell board until this issue is fixed. This sure is frustrating, but I wanted to let everyone know, so they wouldn't end up in my situation
post #38 of 40
What? That is honestly a little disappointing... Oh well, start with the stock cooler and upgrade with something later i suppose.

And i see the lure of new/shiny won in the end eh? Should be a very nice computer! thumb.gif

EDIT: The Corsair Hydro series does support the 1150 if you are interested

Heya M3nta1 - In the end it did ahah. Will the H100i fit the nzxt 820 phantom? After the x60 issue, I see even mm matter.
yup, mm do matter. And Shiny and new is always a nice feeling.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/478101_377102209051489_1706379111_o.jpg < Shows the h100 or h100i in the 820. unsure of which one it is but yes it should fit with one set of fans.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1144409/h80-h80i-h90-h100-h100i-h110-case-compatibility-thread-page-1-for-full-listings/0_20 < doesnt seem to show it, so i dont know if they just lump both Phantoms together or what.

In theory it should fit. I dont really know, i dont have the case or the cooler. But the case supports a 240mm rad up top, and the h100i is a 240mm rad. the sockets match up. I would say it has a better than 50/50 chance of fitting xD But it is your money and your risk, so you will have to make the choice.
