Hey guys, so i recently upgraded my mobo and had to reformat my drive, and ive noticed high lag on dota 2 ... i was coming from windows 7 ultimate to windows 8 pro .. ive upgraded everything installed every driver i still dont know what the problem is, had no lag before ... system specs are below with a minor change in OS ... i overclocked my CPU @ 4.55 Ghz and graphics card should have no problem running max @ 1920x1080p

Perhaps your OC isn't stable. You aren't guaranteed the same OC across different motherboards. Check what your CPU/GPU usages are at to try to figure out what's holding you back.

actually its more stable then it was on my 990FXA-UD3, i will downclock to 4.0Ghz which im sure it should handle without a problem, and see from there, but i highly doubt its my O/C

Reinstall Dota? Check that you don't have any weird processes using 90% CPU or something? Is the lag just framerate drops or is there some sort of artifacting? You could also try older video drivers--The newest betas are not guaranteed to work for everything.

thanks for helping me out man, but i noticed when i move with the keys like up and down the map i notice it laggs you know what i mean? its not cause of heavy usage but im not sure if its windows 8 for me frown.gif how do i unisntall the drivers from windows 8?
So here's the thing about windows 8--The AMD driver uninstall tool BREAKS your W8 installation. Do not use the driver uninstaller that they provide on their site.

What I would try is go to control panel an uninstall ALL AMD stuff via the AMD catalyst install manager. Then, download some WHQL drivers and see if those work.

Honestly, I was struggling with AMD drivers in W8 recently and ended up going with "refresh your pc" which uninstalls all software but leaves your files. Leave that for a last resort though. You could also try running Dota2 in W7 compatibility mode, or mess with the Catalyst Application profile for the game. See if you can tweak some setting that makes the lag go away.

he guys,
got a similar problem...
i upgraded from win7 pro to win8.1 N pro and now i got a constant high ping of 120-150 ms.
before the upgrade i had a constant 50.
teamspeak and stuff got normal pings, only dota2 seems to be struggling.
i already tried to set steam and dota to high priority in my task manager, didn't work frown.gif

specs are below, except for the OS change

edit:
fps is capped at a constant 60

EDIT:
got it smile.gif.
i added "-high" to starting options for dota2 in steam.
(open steam library -> right click dota2 -> properties -> starting options -> enter "-high")
i think it should do the same thing i manualy did in the task manager, but somehow it works this way^^.

Did you install Win8.1 in UEFI "mode"? If yes, I had big problem with BF4 and Windows 8/8.1 in UEFI as my 7950 didn't had an UEFI-ready bios (I was getting 10 fps at high while usually I'm at 70-80 fps).
I flashed the gpu BIOS to an UEFI one and it worked like a charm.

My fix before was to install Windows 8/8.1 in non-UEFI mode. Didn't try, but maybe deactivating SecureBoot could help.
