You should try to PM Martin and see what he says. He does all sorts of tests and knows his stuff biggrin.gif

That thread with the youtube videos demonstrate my problem with the SP120s. They make an awful motor sound like there's some friction in the bearings or something.

Compared with the AP-45s

Artic cooling F12s are a good slower speed cheap fan (also PWM capable) as are yate loons but yayes are only 3pin. Yate loon high speed fans are also pretty good for something a little higher speed also at a lower cost.

Swiftech helix non pwm can also be had for lower cost and do perform ok at slower speeds or when run in push/pull but seem to struggle a little with high speeds in sing push mode. At 1800-2000 nothing really comes close to a GT though. Expensive though and lacking PWM control which sucks.

PWM control is actually an important feature to consider as well. Any PWM fan set up properly to ramp up and back down with heat loads will generally produce the least noise most of the time. Thats where GTs struggle, they are in a league of their own for constant speed setups using voltage control but they don't do well in automatic variable speed regulation. Been meaning to try the AP-29 PWM conversion mod, but never have. Expensive fans too, but might be a really good high speed variable PWM capable fan.

Alternatively, you could use yate loon high speeds and a sunbeam rheosmart to convert PWM to voltage control. If you have a lot of fans that may be the cheaper route. I have used the sunbeam and yates before on a speedfan auto setup, worked really well.thumb.gif
