I think it actually looks pretty awesome too. Too bad I'm not in the market for a GPU ATM and it's a 770...

i'm in the market for a GPU but 770 is way to out of my price range, i'd be lucky to get a 7950 or a reference 670 for 300 or less redface.gif though i'd like to make a custom shroud similiar to that biggrin.gif

oh no no on, since the HD8970/9970 (however they'll call it eventually) would be at least a better (and probably 20nm) tahiti it could get how which if ASUS announces one for it or at least the 7970 that would be amazing.

i think that ASUS went for the fan fro two main reasons:
A) copied a bit their water cooled 7990 (which saves money when you copy a design instead of a completely new one)
B) For ASUS it is better looking with the fan. (which has some basis since so many on OCN make CPU water loops and mod their GPU shroud which looks so beautiful and almost surpasses a water block)

A DYI block is preferable because...? I don't know if you've noticed, but you require two slots for virtually any graphics card today regardless of configuration; among the newer generations you'll find the original reference 7970 and 7950 is one of the exceptions, but even they received a change to make it dual-slot, 'cause they wanted another DVI on there.

Unless you cut off the additional slot caused by the second DVI slot on most cards, you'll be sitting with a dual-slot card one way or the other. Hell, the original and atrocious GTX 680 "chimney connectors" is also another obstacle.

Now, I don't like the appearance of this cooling solution, but if they could fix the aesthetics it could be a pretty alright card with the right fan and fan profiles.
