I don't see why Sony even need to defend the PS4, they will sell a ton of them anyway. PS3 fans still go crazy about it's graphics in games like Last of us, yeah, in 720p.
And about BF4 at 1080p@60, sadly, no, only 720p.
http://wccftech.com/battlefield-4-sticks-720p60-fps-nextgen-consoles-frostbite-25-game-details-leaked-arriving-november-2013/

Seems it might actually be 1080P. Which honestly it has to be to compete with COD which will easily be with it's lacklustre graphics.

Quote:
Rajat Taneja, EA CTO, seemed very enthusiastic about Battlefield 4 saying that it is indeed “stunning”; he then follows up with an implication that PS4′s power is aiding the creative development of the title. The title runs in 1080p and 60FPS. “The imagination of the developers along with that power”; Rajat Taneja also sees the next generation of gaming consoles being 8-10x more powerful than this one we’re currently in.

and for 4k res maybe 0,1% use it.

Even in two years people will still use 1080p. The population will use 1080p for a long time except if futureshop and bestbuy start to sell 1440p or 4k display for cheap price (in maybe 5 years) and then the new console will come out.

This.

For the people who say 1080p is dead - what imaginary world are you living in? I'm sure its a happy place if everyone is running around with 1440p+ monitors and 3000$+ setups.

In the real world (which is everywhere apart from the one inside your head) mid range GPUs and 1080p monitors are the norm. And new consoles fit perfectly in this area.

Very true. It's laughable to call 1080p obsolete when it's not even the current standard yet. Majority of people have more DVDs than BluRays, majority of people have 720p TVs instead of 1080p, many laptops are not 1080p, etc. Look at some benches for 4k gaming and you'll see why consoles can't do it: you need 2 grand worth of graphics cards alone just to hit 60fps most of the time.

Even on an enthusiast forum such as this, many are still at 1080. What do you think that says about what the standard is for "normal" people?

EDIT:

I wonder if anyone attempted to pay $99 for a biannual upgrade...

doesn't the 7850 have way more shader cores? is their reliable source to back up that claim?

If that is true i hope to see some really nice ports/games.

The entire article and discussion is such a waste of time.

Nothing but PC elitists defending their huge $$$ spent on gpu's, WHO EVEN CARES, its all personal preference.

You actually think people want to spend 1.2K to be able to run games on 3 screens? and how many games are even fun to play on 3 screens?? if you ask me its nothing but a fad, ugly fat bezels in between screens? yeah that looks great.

Also, does everyone forget they are able to now make games that look better than what we get on PC on around $400-$500 worth of hardware? Obviously the GPU's will not have the RAW power to compete with a top end PC graphics card, if they did people would need to take out loans just to buy a dam console.

But you watch, watch and see how good the games look, you've all seen what they can do with that crappy PS3 hardware, go watch some uncharted videos, you just wait and see.

I'm not a fanboy of any system, i have a PC and i have a PS3, some games are better on the couch and some are better on my PC.

Why does everyone need to try and convert or convince everyone else that they have to like the same thing they do? maybe we should all dress the same too.

The term obsolete is obsolete if you ask me. I can do everything i do on my Galaxy S3 that i did on my crappy HTC desire. Go figure.

4K gameplay won't come to PS4, and not very likely even at the end of its life.

But to say 1080p is dead is ABSURD. Those that own 1200p+ hardware are in the minority of a niche (yeah some Inception shiet)...something in the range of 5% according to Steam survey.

720p to 1080p isn't very noticable but I assume 1080p to 4x1080p (4K UHD) is. Time will tell but I honestly doubt they'll become mainstream until 2020 right around when next, next-gen comes in (hell, 1080p isn't even mainstream yet last time i checked).

don't knock on it until you've tried it. Any first-person perspective (fps, rpg, simulators) game will be much more satisfying in multimonitors. The immersion is unparalleled. Hell, even 3rd person/RTS benefits from triple monitors...the only game that doesn't help with having more screen real estate is probably fighting games. Thin bezels are common on IPS which is the only displays to use in eyefinity/surround if you ask me, and it doesn't bother me at all. Even if you have fat bezels that's what bezel mods are for...after all this is OCN where modding is popular.

Actually I think people are just annoyed Sony / MS no longer see the need to subsidize the hardware costs.

They always did in the past, and were still profitable as production costs decreased over time and they made ridiculous amounts of money from game sales.

Now they are making money from game sales, store purchases and hardware sales. And on top of that they're setting the bar for future games very low by limiting the hardware .

I honestly feel that game development has been held back by the long life of the 360/ps3, and I can see it happening again with these consoles. That is why I dislike the specs being weak sauce, it is not due to any "elitism" on my part.

Hell, I'll probably still buy one. Xbox looms like it'll be cool for the living room, just wish it packed more punch smile.gif
