Yeah. That kind of stuff does not appeal everyone. I'm personally not really annoyed by bezels. Takes a little while to get used to them. Ofc given the option I would pick the equal resolution without bezels assuming I can afford it. Although the FOV stuff I was on about was meant mostly to be about productive stuff and the remarks about first person shooters were thrown in more as an afterthought from my side. In most productivity related tasks bezels are not an issue as you rarely do somethin stretched all the way across multiple of your screens. Or well - I do stretch some stuff across multiplle screens sometimes but for that the screens need to be damn well aligned and it's not quite common even for me. Anyway - that is why having 4K is pretty awesome - now it's actually possible to get 4x 1080p screens worth of pixels packed into one unit without bezels and at pretty reasonable prices.

Size wise I believe my sweet spot would be ~36'' ballpark for 4K, but it's subjective depending on how far people like to keep their screens from themselves.

I would say 34" and a slightly crisper image. Then again a 39" 21:9 4k screen would be awesome

The only one other company that uses the 39" VA 4K panel besides Seiki is also a Chinese company, Skyworth.

Seiki is launching its "Pro" version of 4K TVs in 2014 that will include HDMI 2.0, unfortunately, 39" is not available.

I also checked Skyworth's website, and for their 2014 lineup, they no longer produces 39" as well, which leads me to believe that 39" VA panels are no longer in production/discontinued? Maybe that's the reason Asus won't be making its 39" 4K monitors.

So I checked the few Chinese TV manufacturers (because we all know that Chinese is way ahead of US in adopting new technology). Interestingly, I see couple manufacturers to offer 42" as the smallest size for their 2014 lineup, so my best guess is, 42" is the new 39"? I do not know if any of them are HDMI 2.0 or 60Hz, but considering that they are already on sale in China, chances of them appearing in US market are slim. I'm hoping that any manufacturer will make the 42" for US.

I would love to have a 4K monitor, personally I think 32" is small, 37" might be the right size and can live with 39". Unfortunately, I don't know of any manufacturer producing 37" 4K monitor, and 39" seems to disappear. So my hope is the 42" if it ever gets picked up for US market.

Thanks for the info... very excited to see what winds up happening with those Seiki TVs. I too could manage 42". 46" or 50"+ would be too large for my setup, I think, though I suppose I might be able to move things around and push the screen even farther back if it had VESA mounts for a different stand.

I don't really understand why there aren't at least 36-37" monitors being made at 4k. I know that the vast majority of users are still using 1080p screens, but there's just no real reason IMO for those of us already at 1440/1600p to make a large resolution jump at virtually the same 27-30" form factor that's been around for years.

Almost every report recently on the owners thread has been 120hz and those who hit 96 just needed to switch DVI-D cables and they got 120hz.

First of all, they are Korean not Chinese. Secondly it sounds like to me you are one of those way over cautious people. I bet you don't buy an item because you saw someone say that got one DOA on a Newegg review right? Simply because a very small fraction of them don't hit 120hz (again usually because they just need to use a different cable) doesn't mean the monitor isn't 120hz.

But you go ahead and keep missing out.

I didn't want to argue with blindfolded IPS fanboys, but here I am, back, when Anandtech just helped me smile.gif

"Going to 110Hz worked fine, but higher settings did not for me. It might be a panel lottery, where some work at 120Hz and some do not, but I wouldn’t assume you will get 120 Hz to work for certain. Still, pushing beyond 60Hz is at least possible."

And the best part:

"Update: Commenters pointed out that the QNIX "overclocks" by dropping frames. To test this I used the QNIX on TestUFO.com at both 90Hz and 60Hz and took 1/5 second exposures of the Frame Skipping Check. Below you can see screenshots showing that at 90Hz, the QNIX is simply dropping frames instead of creating extra frames. At 110Hz I began to get sparkles on the screen, obviously pushing the limits of what the panel can do. Because of this, I'd discount any overclocking mentions from the QNIX as it isn't a true higher referesh rate panel."

Then again: I will wait for guaranteed 120 Hz panel and you...

Keep missing out boy, because your IPS is obviously skipping lots of frames smile.gif

PS. Won't even mention enormous input lag and an the fact that your beloved IPS just lost to TN panel (XL2720T) in terms of colors wink.gif

The problem with Korean monitors and fps above 60 fps comes down to the PCB in the monitor itself. These monitors are very bare bones, allowing a greater than normal amount of throughput (as all of the unnecessary commands are eliminated). There was one single PCB revision that would almost guarantee 120 fps with these monitors, but all others sketchy. This is why some groups like Overlord used to sell aftermarket PCBs for these monitors.

And yes, since they are NOT designed for resolutions above 60 fps even if they are capable of it, visual errors abound at those framerates.
