Interesting, I have the fan controller hooked up with the sata power connecter and I think it also has a 4-pin molex. I'll give that a try when I get home.

Not exactly what I meant, could be your fan controller. Try running them without any controller, just power to the fan at full speed off the power supply and compare the sound to when a PWM source is used.

Something must be wrong with the fan....

I have 3 NF-P12 PWM and 1 NF-F12 PWM in my system all connected to 4 pin Headers... the P12's are 900RPM and the F12 is at 1200RPM and I hear nothing at all unless I put my ear on the case....

Noctua fans are silent.....smile.gif

And keeping my main board at 25c and cpu at 27c at idle....thumb.gif

Yep, I plugged them into the motherboard, and the humming is gone. And my molex idea didn't work, so I've concluded that the problem is my fan controller.

seeing as how I don't have nearly enough mobo fan connections, I either have to make this fan controller work or send it back and get a different one. But how would I be able to make sure I wouldn't get the same problem?

yes, they are supposed to be silent, and for the powerful job they do they are. But what I'm talking about isn't the wind noise. I expect that from anything that is doing a good job, and that's why I got a fan controller. My fans are making a buzzing sound that I have diagnosed many times as the motor, and it only happens when the fans are running at low speeds. When I crank them to full blast the sound goes away, but then there's a loud wind noise.
