Amd Apu A6 3670k 2.7ghz overclock

Thread Starter
hi , i have the following components:
-motherboard Asrock A75m
-ram 2x4gb ddr3 1600mhz
-cpu apu a6 3670k 2.7ghz at stock speed
-cooler :cooler master hyper t4 with 120mm fan
-psu halfman 750 watts
-asus amd 6670 1 gb ddr5

and i can only safe overclock the cpu to 3.3ghz and it's limit is at 4.7ghz
,my question is how can i push further the cpu and whats the best software to do that.

thanks

Hi there fellow a6-3670k user! My chip is at the same exact OC and thats about all you will get without changing the voltage. I can get mine stable at 3.4Ghz by increasing the CPU volts to ~1.52V but this ran pretty hot even when i wasn't using the integrated GPU and I'm also using a large 120mm air cooler.

I realize there are all those bigger multipliers there, but they are really only going to work if you crank up the volts and use LN2. If you go with a water cooler you might be able to get it up to around 3.5 - 3.6Ghz (which tends to be the top "working/useable" overclock for a llano quad core..

At 3.3 though you should be pretty good to go for most games and tasks. At least I haven't run into much yet that isn't limited by the graphics first.

Are you running stable at 3.3? What kind of testing are you doing to test for stability?

many thanks for your help, mine was not 100% stable at 3.3 because i didnt increase cpu voltage and i'm using amd overdrive only
if you know any software better than this ,please let me know

(sorry for my english writting,i'm portuguese?thumb.gif

I generally don't use software as a BIOS overclock tends to be more stable. Try 1.42V cpu at 3.3Ghz (I think thats what mines actually running at)
I would imagine that your ASROCK board will at minimum have the cpu multiplier and cpu volt adjustments available in BIOS.

If you are new to overclocking and need help navigating your BIOS, I looked at the manual for your board and you will need to hit delete after restarting to enter bios. go to the OC Tweaker menu and switch the "CPU Multiplier/Voltage change" from auto to manual. This should open up the ability to change your cpu voltage and multi. I think stock is 1.4V and I was able to get 3.2GHz and less stable at stock voltage, but 3.3GHz took a little more at 1.42V, and for 3.4Ghz my chip took 1.52V for stability. Yours could vary though. My wifes chip takes extra voltage to reach 3.2Ghz

I feel anything much more than 1.5V is probably too much on air cooling as the heat does get pretty high, but depending on your temps, you might be ok. For instance my OC was stable this winter, but now its running to hot to be 100% stable so I turned it down. Essentially when it takes .1V or more to reach the next mutli, just leave it because the extra 100MHz isn't worth the huge jump in volts for everyday use.

Best of luck and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask as I am running 2 comps with this CPU right now biggrin.gif

Hi there toughacton

i've done my bios cpu overclock and it stays stable at 3.3ghz with the voltage you mentioned ,
tryied do push it a bit more to 3.4 and 3.5 ghz even with voltage at 1.5 but not worthy, just can't get it to be stable
3.3 ghz is really the max stable oc on this A6 Apu.

you're help's appreciated

best regards

I have my A6-3670K running at 3.6ghz @ 1.5v. Stable for 2years now and temps are around 30c with water cooling.

You've got a very good chip then smile.gif Also the water helps a lot for temps. Both my A6-3670s hit a wall at 3.4Ghz on air. They take 1.5 or more volts to get stable at 3.4 (with my cooling... might take less with a better cooler though) I'm not sure how well this chips scale with really good cooling, but another 200Mhz sounds about right. Though 1.5V on air is probably too much for an extended amount of time. I think my load temps were around 55 or so.

So to DunKing22... If you ever upgrade to water cooling try the OC again and see what you can get stable with lower temps.

My A6 was running on air for roughly 6 or 7months at 1.5v with around the same load temps (roughly 55c if I recall correctly). Ambient was probably between 70-80F. Then I switched to w/c and haven't looked back biggrin.gif
