Hello all, I am faced with a very hard decision. I am building a multi tasking gaming rig. I was always leaning towards the i7 3820 and rampage 4 extreme combo but, something hit me last night and i started looking at the 3770k and the maximus V formula. What do you guys think i should do. I am also running a Sapphire 7950 3L and 32gb 1866mhz corsair ram.

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233238

Also, if you guys have any recomendations for the RAM and/or the GPU, please post them up. RAM, i am going with 32gb and 1866 or higher. Also i have a question: Is the maximus V extreme worth the upgrade over the formula and if i get the formula will i need a seperate audio card. Thanks in advance.

2nd and 2nd. GPU and RAM look fine to me if that's what you are going for. Just be careful about any after market CPU cooler and those ram, as they are very tall and sometimes things don't fit well.

Not entirely sure about the upgrade on the mobos.

Multitasking gaming rig?

What kind of multitasking? For all I know, "multitasking" can be running firefox and Portal 2 at the same time rolleyes.gif

You gotta be more specific

This.

Also, there is no need to buy an ROG mobo. There are plenty of similar performing parts at a much lower price.

I would choose neither.

If I was going with the 3770k, it would be the ASRock Z77 OC Formula or the GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H.

If I was going with the 3820 and X79 setup, it would be the ASRock X79 Extreme9 or Gigabyte G1.ASSASSIN2.

If your gonna upgrade the mobo anyway, I would go with haswell mainly because the new gigabyte high-end boards are drop dead sexy imo, and the 4770k is faster than both of the chips that you picked (stock anyway) plus it uses a lot less power. I would also go with this board. Just my 2cents.gif Good luck with whatever it is that you choose to buy.
