Even still its alot of money to try and sell your ivy cpu to then buy a haswell.

I would RMA or replace your current mobo if its playing up, I really like my gigabyte Z77-UD3H motherboard. Really, really good features, handles overclocking superbly. Has some quirks, like all motherboards, in that sometimes if an overclock is unstable bios freezes and you need to reset CMOS, but thats only minor in my opinion.

I would recommend it.

I'm in the same boat as OP but when I think about it...what if Ivy drops maybe $20 or more in the next several months? Then we can start doing the chip lottery for cheap biggrin.gif

you wanna buy a platform then grab some LGA 2011 (i7-3820 or 3930K) and upgrade to IB-E..
For me, I am upgrade because its a have to thing, my MB and CPU died last week, I am using the wife's old ass Duo 2 Core computer, and we are going to replace this too because its starting to show its age and its starting to kick the bucket. Anyways I am coming from a i7 920 D/0, and I waited until the Haswells came out and figured I was looking at a 399 MB and the 3770k which was 330. so for me to go to a 4470k is 10 extra and I got the Gigabyte OC force which is just 20 more, so 30 more what the hell. But after seeing the temps I am regretting as of right now. I am kind of wishing I went the 3770k way. Now that might change in a couple days after I get my Haswell. It will not get her until Thurs, and I am getting 16 gigs of 2400 ram, the Haswell, and the OC force. I am WC the whole thing. And adding a 240 Corsair Force SSD, since my intel ssd first gen died too. but will be using my 580's since I cant sell them for 575 with WC blocks. until i can come up with the money to replace them with the 780's.

I do hope and pray I am wrong about regret after I get it. I was wanting a 4.2+ghz for everyday life.

If you want a cheap 3770K, phone up best buy online and have them price match microcenter. It took me about 10 minutes on the phone, was shipped and arrived in 2 days for $229. Ultimately I returned it to a local store since I wanted haswell instead.

Edit: I would have sold it on here but the lack of rep prevented me from doing so.

IVY-E might end up being a SUPER beast for overclocking, Sandy-E was too hot, but regular IVY was also too hot because of so little die-surface to dissipate heat..

How, with IVY-E, it'll have BIGGER surface for heat dissipation, so maybe it'll clock super high..

Good news for x79 owners, But still dellidded haswell would still probably be better in games.

ABSOLUTELY no reason to upgrade. delid that sucker and put on some liquid metal ultra, drop those temps by ~20C and OC a lot more. For 20 bucks that is WAY worth your money.

3770k to 4770k is a total waste of money IMO.

Also with consoles that have 8 cores coming out very soon you might want to wait and see what plays the new heavily threaded games better.

Ivy and presumably Haswell if it acts the same as Ivy only heats up at like 1.3v and above, meaning you can easily get to 4.5ghz before temps start shooting up. Its people wanting to get upwards of 5ghz that struggle with the high temps smile.gif
