Should I get new thermal paste?

Thread Starter
So, I finally decided to upgrade from my current sig rig now that haswell has come out. I ordered a hyper 212 EVO to put on my 4770K, but am not sure if the thermal paste it comes with is any good. I still have some old Arctic cooling MX-2 paste, but am not sure if it has degraded from sitting in my toolbox for a few years. Is there some new awesome thermal compound that I should order instead? I've been a bit out of the loop for the last couple years thanks to school and research, and everything seems so different now (or I just forgot a lot of stuff!). Thanks!

arctic 5 silver works well. DO NOT GET SILICON. lol my friend got that and his CPU stayed almost 100c under load.

Haswell + EVO? Yikes... Haswell is insanely hot as is on the reviews I've seen of it using either the H100i or the H110. Air cooling should be interesting.

AS5 works great, but seeing as you have an insanely hot processor you might want to look into Delidding and getting some Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra and putting that straight on the CPU die itself.

I thought it was supposed to be a bit cooler (or equal to) the 3770k temp wise? This cooler seems to work OK on the 3770k, if reviews are to be believed. By no means am I out to set any OC records with this setup, I just want something to game on for the next few years and maybe bump it up a few hundred MHz for the hell of it. I certainly don't trust myself enough to pry the lid off the thing!

Prolimatech PK1 or PK3 are the best performing regular style TIMs I have used, and I have actually gotten better temps delidding with PK1 than with CLU or CLP. They're inexpensive too.
