150-220cfm FAN on a BT WORTH IT??? - Page 2

My ambient is about 18, thats what my case is at. I dunno why either (my fans are totally cheap lol) may aswell not even be there! and even now when my comp is down stairs (ambient is 26) my cpu is still at 26C i have no idea why!
Guess im just lucky.

At first i though 'i dont care about noise' but beleive me, when you get one you will think JESUS they really are THAT loud. I could hear mine downstairs with my room door closed!

A little trick I used on my ThermalRight XP120 with a 120cfm fan was to add one of THESE. I never saw a reduction in cooling using it, but it worked double duty to my advantage by silencing a LOT of the added noise, as well as trapping most of the dust that would normally get attached to the fins. By keeping it cleaner, it helped keep my temps stable over a lot longer period of time (weeks & months), by not killing heat transfer properties from insulating dust.

wow that is incredible 18!!!....what case and fans do you have??...can you list them and how they are set up....im interested in learning this....do you have a BT? AND IS IT LAPPED??
Yea sure, firstly my BT is not lapped, neither is my cpu.

The only fans i have are one on the top of my case exhausting air, one at the back of my case exhausting air and two on the front (infront of my HDD) as intake fans (bringing the air in) But however my cables are not very tidy, i mean they are terrible lol! So i have took the side off my case and i have a desk fan blowing into my case (this doesnt affect my cpu, just lowers my mobo temps because my gpu and poor cabling cause it to heat up)

I have turned off the radiator in my room and sometimes have my window open. My idles range from 22 (window open) to 24 (window closed)

Hope this helps lol also i took the exhaust fan off the back and my temps still dont change, when i turn the table fan off, my cpu temps dont change. This is me when im OC'ed to 2.8 and all fans are 80mm

Iced.

thanks for the explanation!.....my thermaltake armor case is a junior...i take it yours is a full tower being it that it has the fan on top and 2 120s in the front....mine only has a fan on the back and front and no top fans so im a little worried about my temps....i will probably get a full tower during christmas....do you think it would be ok if i game at 55c until december 25th lol?..im gonna try a couple things till then to get it down....idle is like 42 and full load is 55c.....
Dont worry 55C full load is fine....but if it goes above 57 - 60. Let it cool down.

55C is max until your cpu starts degrading, but even then it takes a year or two maybe more before it dies.

All my fans including the ones on the front are 80mm (except the one on my ttbt)

Yes my case is full ATX and is supposed to be specially designed for airflow but its a load of BS lol

If you ask me the best option is to take the side off your case and get a desk fan ($10 - $15) and just blow it into your case. They are quiet and work wonders.

EDIT: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...&Go.x=0&Go.y=0

Thats my case comes with an exhaust fan on the back and top. Its the 4th one down the silver one.

$59.99

Post a thread about what kind of case you want and the price range. There will be better ones out there

Yes im very concerned with the 55c load because sometimes i can see it hit 56 but its an average of 53-55c....im gonna try and reverse the front fan as a temp to get the hot air off the hard drives out of the case (just until i can work on that HD CAGE).....i really dont want to burn up this proc but I would imagine that in a procs 10 year life span I would probably be knocking off 2 years at the max by running at those temps for another 10 days ...ill prolly have a new proc by the end of 07 but i really dont want to damage this one cause i really like it.....

What was your temps with the stock cooler? if you had one.

Are you sure it is properly seated...did you use as5?

Try reseating it first because even with the worst case it shouldnt be 55c on stock.

I don't want to bust anyone’s bubble but copper can only sink heat so fast. Unless you have a large amount of surface area a standard aftermarket sink shouldn't make a difference after 120cfm unless your pc operates out side the laws of our universe.

well the weird thing is that it used to idle around 38 and never go past 50 full load....it started to catch dust and before i had to switch out fans it hit 58 but i didnt play with that much....so i switched out the fan with a BT and it dropped it a couple degrees....BUT before i had to keep the case open....now i can close it and still have lower temps but my 120's are VERY VERY weak and the heat just sits in the case basically...its a freakin heat trap....i did use as5 and i think the fan is seated well also but i dunno.....
