Stock 780 vs Superclocked ACX?

Thread Starter
Couldn't really find anything with google or the reviews I read. I know that all the reference 780s are exactly the same, but is EVGAs superclocked ACX version binned higher? I would guess it is, but I suppose it could be the same chips with a better cooler?

I like the look of the reference card better, and I could order one right away, but if the ACX is binned higher I'd like to wait for one of those to become available.

Anyone know?

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that EVGA usually only bins for FTW and Classified models. I could be wrong, though.

However, the ACX is certainly superior to stock cooling. Since the GTX 780's performance is highly dependent on keeping temps below 80*C to avoid throttling, the ACX cooler is a major factor in its performance at higher resolutions as seen below:

I'm sure if I worked the stock cooler a little harder I could get the same clocks as the SC card.. I guess the question becomes whether or not I want the sexy looking reference card or the OK looking ACX. Trading looks for performance.... hmm haha hard to decide. tongue.gif

No binning is going on. 99% of GTX 780s can do the EVGA Superclock ACX speeds. Just overclock yourself. There will always be a dud in the mix that won't budge past stock reference clock 780 speeds.

Very rare though.

I like the look of the stock cooler as well but I've found it runs too warm for my liking even at idle. I have to run the fan at 50% to keep the idle temp under 40c when my ambient is 70F. Got a Heatkiller block on the way to get this card under water.

Hmm that is discouraging.... I guess it's probably worth it to just wait and grab the ACX version when its back in stock. Thanks everyone smile.gif +rep for all thumb.gif
