Slow wifi server

Hey everyone smile.gif Ran into a bit of an issue sitting up my pc as a server. The problem is, im getting slow wifi transfer speeds.. slow as in 1mbps. I have set the router to N only (2.4ghz) etc.. used the right encryption for wireless N speeds.. and still the same. I am using the DD WRT firmware on a dlink dir 615 rev c1 router. I guess what im asking is, does anyone know the correct settings for speed for wireless N? some devices connect at 103mbps (also all devices are wifi N) and one connects at 65mbps. The max speed i ever saw whilst stuffing around with the settings was 8mbps. And once using D-Lan i saw speeds of 17-27mbps solid! Please help? tongue.gif

First of all, what is the adapter you use? Is it on-board or external? Might need a bit more information regarding that.
As to settings, frame aggregation and a short guard interval would increase your data rate, but the latter generally allows for packet drops and less overall data integrity protection.

And my recommendation would be not to run a server on a wireless connection. What roles are you setting up anyway?

Exactly. wifi isnt the most reliable or fastest thing, but if you really have to use wifi, I would recommend switching to 802.11AC. It's MUCH faster

I'm currently in the middle of some renos and I have my 14TB WHS 2011 File Server connected to a 150Mbps TP-Link Wireless AP. Zero issues. It backs-up all PCs on my network twice a day. It also runs Cacti on all SNMP devices in my house. I stream media inside my house and outside for myself and friends.

Wireless isn't that bad. As long as it's done correctly. Make sure there is no interference, you're on a less used non-overlapping channel and that all your gear is up-to-date and working correctly.
