Oblivion CTD - Page 3

Try:

TweakNow Reg Cleaner
CCleaner (Clean & Fix reg "Issues")
Advanced WindowsCare
Eusing Registry Cleaner
Abexo Reg Cleaner

Run all of these programs at least once and then run NTREGOPT (same download page) to optimise your registry afterward. NTREGOPT won't help solve your problem, but it can help speed windows up a bit after running registry cleaners.

Also, if you haven't already, try running Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware SE Personal, which are also on the same download page.

After you've done all this, insert your XP CD and on your taskbar, go Start > Run and type "sfc /scannow" without quotation marks, then hit enter and wait for the process to finish. Reboot your PC after the process has finished (removing your OS CD first) and then try Oblivion again.

Hopefully these steps will help to eradicate any problems within the Windows XP OS that might be causing other problems to occur with Oblivion. I know it's a general approach, but I'm not an Oblivion expert. This is what I'd do, if I were experiencing your problems.

Another possible problem could be that your RAM may be at fault. Try running 10 hours of memtest86 to determine if there are any issues with RAM. That will at least rule it out as a culprit for the problems.

This is a common enough problem that it's in the readme.
here it is

-Frequent Crashing possibly due to old system file
Some users may experience frequent crashing due to an older system file. These crashes may be attributed to the 'mpeg2dmx.ax' file. Simply renaming the file to "mpeg2dmx.ax.old" may correct this issue.

This fixed oblivion for me

Ooooh, good info.

Try that first Kirgan, if it works it'll save you time over my suggestions!
