Check my RAM speed

Thread Starter
Motherboard: ASUS P8B75-V, B75
CPU: Intel i5-3470, 3.20Ghz, 6MB, BOX, LGA1155
RAM: 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz

How do I check if my RAM is running at 1600Mhz? I know it's somewhere in the BIOS.

use CPU-Z and open the "memory" tab, it should read 800 for 1600 RAM.

Can't I just see in the BIOS? Why always third-party programs for everything? smile.gif

CPU-Z is good for showing a fair bit of info whilst in windows. in your BIOS i think the main tab should show 1600 in memory speed value. smile.gif

Downloaded CPU-Z and it shows:

You're running at 1333mhz which is usual. To make your 1600mhz ram run at 1600mhz, you need to change it in the BIOS.
Don't forget that you might also have to up the voltage, depending on what your RAM is rated at.

Really? Voltage? It's 1.5V I think.

Or in BIOS for 1600 RAM just choose an XMP profile.

under the highlighted Ai Overclock Tuner you see the Memory Frequency. it is most likely set to Auto as in the image above; click on the that and select XMP 1600. save/reset and you're good to go. thumb.gif

edit: i forgot to mention you will need to go to Advanced Mode in the BIOS to see the above.

Thanks guys. I think I got it right now. CPU-Z says 800mhz so I think it's good now. Also, when I turn on the PC and the first black screen says Memory 8192 (DDR3-1600) so that's good smile.gif

btw, what is XMP and is it safe to do what I just did? It's not dangerous or anything right? It's a brand new PC setup so if something happens I will totally **** my pants lol.
