[AnandTech] Choosing a Gaming CPU at 1440p: Adding in Haswell - Page 8

I pretty much only play Dota 2 as of late, thanx to life being so busy and last night i decided to play it on my new FX8350, completely maxed out 5v5 and it was smooth, perfectly smooth.
Will run fraps tonight and check the fps during those team fights.

Take SC2 for example. If you just start it up, get into a game and look at the fps counter you'll quickly say that it's easy to run. Well yes if nothing is happening. Try playing through a big battle without dropping below 60fps. The thing is that no CPU on the market can do that.

For example the bigger engagements in 2v2 will drop even a 4.8GHz Ivy under 30fps at times.

Games that do that are actually the hardest games to run out there. With Crysis 3 you can just throw a bunch of Titans at it and you'll know how it performs.

My testing from when the 670 launched: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

The game is just completely CPU bound and also hard to run. And only a 1v1 replay was used for this. The situation is worse in 2v2 or when you need the CPU to run user input as well.

Ok I was mostly just targeting those MMOs and source games. I know SC2 is very CPU intensive.

On a sidenote, it would be pretty cool if Anandtech could benchmark PhysX on the CPU. I want to see how much PhysX taxes the CPU in modern titles.

to be fair warcraft 3 can even slow a 3930k @ 4.5 ghz down to a crawl

Could you do comparison between all of them? 3930k, 8350 and 3770k with a titan? Would be nice. biggrin.gif

Yea... I find this extremely hard to believe, I can't pull even close to those numbers...

Playing with bots? Was there ever a smoke gank that led to an actual 5v5 with all 40 spells going off? I highly doubt it.

Most people that stream Dota 2 have a net graph on their stream and you can see the FPS drop real time and I have seen people with FX8350/FX8150 systems drop into the 40-50 range during these fights. And since Dota 2 can only really use three cores, streaming will not bog down the FX chips so it's not a legit excuse.

Well obviously not all spells being fired at once but there were intense moments, I do get what you mean though with all spells and smoke.
I will try replicate what you want then tonight, will record with fraps.
