The M5 board does not feature a PLX Northbridge chip like the 5 does. It only has the Z87 Chipset. I would suggest using Physiocal Slot 1 and 4. How come it wont fit in your case if you use slot 4? What case do you have?

PCIe Info for M5:

Physical Lane:

1: PCIe 3.0 X16 (X8 when slot 4 Populated)

2: PCIe 2.0 X1

3: PCIe 2.0 X4

4. PCIe 3.0 X8

This should solve all your problems!:

PCIe Extension would allow you to place that second card where it will fit while using the X8 #4 slot!

So I have tried everything to get the first card as the first card. While I was playing around with it,I changed the initial display in the bios to slot 3. Now nvidia control panel reads the cards as they should. At a loss and tried of trying, my question is now, will I notice a performance hit? Both cards are at x16 right? My benchmarks are on par for my setup. What do you guys think?

Thanks again!

Yea as long as the benchmarks are similar to the other people results with the same setup then you should be fine!

Wouldn't the PCI slot on the motherboard be in the way of that extension cable? My case has very limited space so even the slightest shift of the video card would suffocate the fan on the walls of the case.

Nope, Put it right up against the existing slot area you are using, it should be fine, its a 1cm shift. If you cant spare a cm then its time to get a new case...... smile.gif

i think his problem was if he use the riser, the 2nd PCI e Slot on his mobo will be on his way. unless he lift up abit the video card. Meaning he need to put some space in between case and video card ( where the video card to case screw.

It is in the way but that's why I said to put it beside the existing slot. It would only offset the card at a slight angle, like 87 degrees. It will still screw in the bracket hole for that slot. It may take a little work but it's not that hard to fit, I have done it a few times before. ...

Went ahead and did a little experiment. I ripped out a pci slot from a old non working mobo I had sitting and plugged it into the video card to test if it would be okay to have the card at an angle . At first, it looked like it would work but then there's a capacitor in the way in between the 2 last slots, so that was a no go because it pushes the video card out so far, that I can't screw it in properly and it wouldn't let me close the case without pushing it hard enough and the possibility of causing damage to the capacitor itself.

Here you can see the limited space I have...
