My Problem. Inconsistent graphics performance (Unigine, 3DMark, Witcher 2, D3 etc. doesn't matter). Equally inconsistent at both stock and overclocked cpu and video card.
I have about a 50% change upon boot/restart for "normal" performance (lets call normal: 28fps in the first scene of Unigine). The other 50% of the time, I have poor performance (Poor in Unigine: 10fps for the first scene). The actual benchmark or game doesn't seem to matter. When it boots "poor" its approximately 1/3 the performance of when its a "good" boot.
Now, what leads me to believe its a flaky Sniper is: If I boot/restart the computer and enter the bios, about 50% of the time, the cursor is tracking very slow. Like I have to move the mouse across the entire mousepad to move the cursor 2" on the screen. When I exit the bios and resume the boot after this state, I see the 1/3 video performance. I have to reboot one or two times for "normal" performance.
If I boot/restart and enter the bios, 50% of the time the cursor is silky smooth and operating normally. If I exit bios and continue to boot from this state, I will achieve "normal" video performance.
Cold Boot, Restart, Reset, CTRL-Alt-Del, unplug powersupply doesn't matter. Its still random hit and miss.
It also just seems to be graphics performance that is effected. Boot time is the same. Load times are the same.
This is the main problem I have on my G1. Sniper 5. For me it happens when the boot is slow. The DPC will be insanely high, 3000us minimum. I just don't understand why this board performs different every time I turn it off and on. There are basically 3 outcomes I get:
-LONG 96 & b2 motherboard LED debug code to a long black screen before OS loads. The black screen flickers to a pure black screen when OS finally loads, showing it's graphics card related. (Happens with all 3 of my 7970s with only one plugged in at a time)
-LONG time to enter bios. Then bios runs extremely SLOW.
-Boots up fast, no problems. (audio might not be detected)
When it's running crap, everything feels like you're running the refresh rate at 30hz. Audio will be popping and cutting out for a few seconds at a time. Latencymon shows Storport.sys as the highest but everything else is really high as well.
I have reseated, replugged, changed cables, cleared cmos, taken out battery, loaded optimized defaults, reinstalled OS, tweaked bios to disable every unused thing (sata ports, controllers, onboard hardware, fan polling), disabled power savings, flicked bios switches, switched hardware around (cpu and ram i haven't touched), etc etc etc. The latest beta bios has been used in all cases however. I might try put it to the latest non beta.Edited by amvnz - 7/25/13 at 3:07pm
