Vista logs off after loggon

Thread Starter
A freind gave me his old dell to fix a logoff when logging in problem....

OS is Vista Home Prem. 32bit

I did a bit of googling on this problem, and here is what I tried so far:

1. Booted under system repair, ran the CMD, typed "copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe".

2. Then booted into Safe Mode and went to change the "userinit" registry from wsaupdater.exe to userinit.exe, but unlike the tutorials, my registry was already userinit.exe......

The pc still has the problem and I cant find anything else on google that relates to my problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

If worse comes to worse, reinstall the operating system (file is sysreset.exe). However, that would be my last resort. So, another suggestion would be to ask him about his past experiences with the device itself. Maybe a file accidentally got deleted from the C: (like the file, winlogon.exe). Maybe a keylogger got into his computer and somehow allowed some kind of virus to log him off whenever he tried to log in. You may need to do some programming/command-line user-interface in order to debug or bypass the main log on. You would have to create a new admin account in the process but I don't take my word for the programming portions. Just saying what I know and I hope we can help you.
