I also have an old rotten CPU that's probably at least a little bit responsible for the failure.

So very true.

There's another way to look at it, though. In my experience, many times, where those extra 30% more performance that made the difference between a playable and non-playable game at the graphics settings and resolutions I love the most. I have the most enjoyable gaming experience because I have a second GPU. And to me, that moments of dream were worthy all the money in the world..

I see that the SLI setup for BF3 is very impressive I think it would hold true for BF4 as well...As for acceptable graphic performance, I would play at 30 fps or higher framerate with settings on ultra(if possible) now another question, if I get this pair and upgrade my monitor to 1440p or 1600p, would I be able to have 60fps? Because I see close to 100fps on 1080p

I know the GTX 690 is around 80 FPS AVG in BF3 @ 1600p so, I think the GTX 670 SLi will very close, 77 FPS or so

That's good to hear, now I'm thinking of skipping the Maxwells and wait for whatever's coming up after it because I will only game on 1 screen and if it can be maxed out, I see no reason to upgrade further.
Here is my build I hope the CPU would not bottleneck the SLI setup:

i5 3570k @4.2GHz
Asus P8Z77-V
2xSandisk Extreme SSD 240GB
1x1TB WD Blue (storage Drive)
16GB HyperX @1600MHz
HD 7870 XT
Corsair HX 750W

I have 2 X 660 gainward golden sample in SLI in 2600k@4.6 and its rubbish.

I have the latest 320.18 driver on windows 8, fresh install and services tweaked.

GRID 2, slower in SLI. SLI on 42 fps maxed out at 1080p 16X AA. SLI OFF 44.2fps

BF3, no increase worth speaking off.

Borderlands 2, sometimes freezes with SLI on! very annoying.

With SLI, you are at the mercy of drivers and software updates to make sure your game supports it

Save up and get the 780. I wish I had one, hell I settle for the 770 right now.

Finally...some one that speaks the truth. I went from 660 SLI to a 780 and couldn't be happier.

I was seeing down to 50% usage with 660 SLI in BF3. I see down to 75% usage on the 780. Its also a lot smoother. Keep in mind how limited I am with an i5 760 @ 3.8 Ghz.

As for GRID 2, the SLI setup would dip to 50 FPS w/ 46% usage. The 780 is @ 130 FPS and 98% usage. The game ending stutter is also gone.
