"Pull" fan selection

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I have a 120mm radiator (H60), and I want to use it in a push/pull configuration.

It is mounted at the rear exhaust, and pushing air out of the case.

I have a Gentle Typhoon AP-15 running as push, and it works so much better than the stock fan.

Now I need a fan as the pull fan and I'm wondering should I still pick a high static pressure fan,
or should I pick a high air flow fan that moves the hot air out of the case more quickly.

In either case, I found that there are some 140mm fans that actually use 120mm mount. Like the Noctua NF-A15, or Thermalright TY-140

Will I benefit from those larger fans (mostly noise reduction)?

Thanks a lot.

I think the conensus around here is to use the exact same fan/speed in push/pull so as not to cause any problems with mismatch. You are already using the consensus best all-around fan as far as OCN opinions go. I would just get a second AP-15. I would not worry with 140mm. You are not going to see a lot of difference in performance going push-pull anyways, and 120mm are just more versatile, more options, easier to sell.

Thanks for the reply.
I didn't really consider the potential issue with different fan. So I assume the different turbulence will cause problem?
AP-15 is great. It is a bit on the pricey side tho...

Also I kinda want to have a top exhaust fan inside my Arc Midi R2.
The problem is that the case has a fan filter made of foam material which I assume will make air hard to get through.

Any suggestions on the top exhaust? Their are mount for either 2x140mm or 1x180mm, so I can get a 140mm or 180mm (don't think I really need 2x140).

I think the theory is that turbulence will cause a problem, yes. I don't know if this has been proven in real-world tests. You might also think about the Cougar vortex fans or other Cougar branded fans if you can handle some orange trim.
