A little of everything..lol
I'm still testing kits at the moment so using the NZXT switch 810 case fans and whatever kit I happen to be testing. Prior to that I had yate loon D12SL12s connected up to the sunbeam rheosmart to convert PWM singal to auto voltage regulation. It worked well with the yates.
I like running fans at idle around 700-800 RPM and let them auto ramp up to 1300. About 99% of the time all I hear is how the fans run at that slower 700-800RPM which gets really hard to differentiate fans. It is almoat more important at those slower speeds that the fan is simply smooth wihout any harmonic spikes and ramps up and down smoothly as well. Noise level differences between most fans down that low is typically getting too close to really measure or percieve any difference. Higher speed is a different story but I expect my system to be nearly inaudible most of the time and auto regulate speed only when really necessary.
Been thinking of buying more Artic Cooling F12s for a more permanent setup as they meet my needs for RPM and PWM without the hassle of running the sunbeam. We will see though, I may be changing cases again after some more kit testing.
I am kind of a cheap/value guy though. If I was building a piece of artwork and didn't mind spending the money, I would probably buy some noise locker e-loops. I personally don't care for the grey blade on the GT and they don't work very well to ramp up and down with their harmonic spikes at certain rpms.
Testing is fun and somehing to consider but there is a lot more to it than noise level for me too.Edited by Martinm210 - 6/4/13 at 4:43pm
