Insanely High CPU Temps when Idle?

Thread Starter
So recently I have noticed a drastic problem in running any games at optimal settings. So I checked out my temps for my GPU and CPU and the CPU is idling from about 61(Rarely) to about 85 degrees Celsius... I have dusted out the entire computer including the heat sink and I am still quite confused as to why the temperatures are getting so high up. Any info on what might be wrong or how I can possibly fix this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thank you! c=smile.gif

I am currently running
AMD Phenom II x4 955 cpu
ATI Radeon HD 5770
ASUS M4A88T-M/USB3
12 GB RAM

Those temps are WAY too high. Try taking off the heatsink and reapplying TIM

@foolofatook Oh trust me, About a week ago I was pushing 98c. Much worse than now.
Also, any suggestions on brands of TIM?

I like Arctic MX4. I hope you're not just continuing to run the system at those temps, because the max temp is 62C according to AMD's website.
