he did it razor style.

im assuming since he got it within 24 hours of ordering he didnt feel like bothering to grab a vice tongue.gif ( spoke with him on teamspeak a bit)
Guess gentle hands are still safe with haswell thumb.gif

EDIT

again out of curiosity, has anyone tried deliding sandy?? headscratch.gif

You can't really do that as the IHS is soldered to the Die. You need a blow torch to separate them.

I'm not sure about Sandy, but I saw someone try delidding some CPU that had its die soldered to its IHS, for practice before he tried it on his Ivy Bridge CPU. It was really funny when he cracked the die in half and had no idea why that happened.

Yeah... you can't delid Sandy Bridge.

i figure im not fearful of it, but i didnt know if thats what people did.
not extremely different from reapplying? still putting pressure on the die that was not manufactured.

its not.. sometimes i think people just want to feel like their ability to capture gramatical inconsistancies matter..

Okay, yeah, I'm so wrong to correct a big mistake in the OP of a popular thread.

I guess I wouldn't want anyone to tell me if I had a similar error too.

Heat gun will do the trick. I did it with a couple old phenom II's but I doubt you will see any real benefit with sandy. I would love to see someone with a de-lidded haswell chip solder the IHS to the die. I don't have the stones to try it but I'm sure someone out there will.

One guy was experimenting with ivy bridge, not sure how well it may have worked, he hasn't been updating recently

There's no point in delidding Ivy/Haswell to re-solder the IHS back on. Direct die cooling will yield results superior to this, without risking a literal meltdown.
