Sin0822, do you have a suggestion on what fluke multimeter I can use to monitor voltages? I'm thinking of getting a fluke 116 or 117. What do you think?

OK you can officially count me in tongue.gif

Got my new board and cpu installed this afternoon.
Everythings just about all up to date and set up the way I like it again.

About to install latest bios then start tinkering .
Wish me luck!

Coming from a 2500k at 4.8Ghz it would wanna be a good clocker!
At least I've got hyper threading now so It should work out better overall regardless thumb.gif
Pci-e 3.0 should be a bonus as well.

Should of ran more tests before I swapped boards but I was eager to change smile.gif
Only think I could think of was far cry 2 lol.

I'm done OCing for now, i reached my goal of a 25% OC.

I'm at 4,4 GHz @ 1.180v (1.160 in Bios). It passed 1 Hour of OCCT Linpack Test. I did get temps into the 80's tho, but ofc that will never happen in games.

Even a cheap DMM will do unless you want to invest in a nice meter.

What version are you using? Did you calibrate the fans first with the calibrate part of it?

Yeah unlikely, 4770k runs hotter at stock then my 2500k did at 4.8Ghz under the same cooler...
Only thing I thought to bench before I stripped my machine down for the upgrade was far cry 2.

Sli gtx 670s at stock (122% power target): 2560x1440, 120Hz, 8x MSAA, Ultra Details.

Average results over 3 runs.

2500K Stock
  • Average Framerate: 133.60
  • Max. Framerate: 210.22
  • Min. Framerate: 95.48

2500K @ 4.8Ghz
  • Average Framerate: 153.02
  • Max. Framerate: 241.33
  • Min. Framerate: 113.34

4770K Stock
  • Average Framerate: 155.94
  • Max. Framerate: 247.14
  • Min. Framerate: 116.86

So far its cost me around $300 to gain 3fps hahahahaha

I really don't see the issue, you are using half the power at full load, you are running almost a full 1ghz lower, considering you can prob OC to 4.5ghz id say its fine. What is this obsession with temperature? As long as the CPU isn't throttling from too high temperature then whats the huge issue? CPu running at a higher speed will die sooner just from the current increase, plus you upgrade once every few years id say you'll be okay lol. I say keep it under 90C in IBT and you are fine since nothing really stresses CPus like that.

At least now you can un-bottleneck your GPUs as well lol. Don't let the naysayers get you down, they are looking for reasons to say their CPU is better than yours lol.

Just done with a 1 and a half hour Heaven loop. Temps didn't go above 60C for the CPU.

So i think i got everything sorted here Might have to adjust a little when i get my Gskill memory, but i'm really happy atm.

To come back on the cooling question. I'm using the Noctua NH-U14S in Push/Pull and have set the Fan Speed to Silent in the Bios.

Have a look:

10787117.jpgdownq.jpg

(Can't orientate the CPU Cooler the other way or i can't fit the Videocard in PCI-E Slot 1. But i think i have great cooling results atm.)
