I think have seen Speedfan running with a Z87 Gigabyte board somewhere. Have to check that out. Speedfan looks frightening first but when you find the 3 really important settings then it's pretty straightforward. On my current ASUS Z68 board there is a custom fan curve option in the BIOS, that's the best solution since it's applied automatically even before Windows. If it weren't for the golden colors, I would have gotten a ASUS board again, I hink, lol.
Thanks for the tips. I will try that out tomorrow (my Z87 test setup is at work). I tried the F5i beta BIOS but that didn't seem to make any difference compared to F4. I also hope that the uncore frequency setting will be fixed soon since it's not possible to go over 3900Mhz with 100 bus clock.
Already tried it. It doesn't seem to do anything. The launch time of AppCenter and Easytune are also quite annoying. After I am on my Windows desktop, I have to wait another 5 - 10 seconds until the AppCenter appears in the tray icon area. Then I have to click it to be able to launch EasyTune. Then it takes another 3-5 seconds until Easytune launches. That's on a fresh Windows 7 Pro installation. Actually, starting the AppCenter takes about the same time as booting Windows, really.

Launch time of Easytune I don't think can really be improved(are you really restarting windows that often with full shutdowns?), why not put the computer to sleep instead of shutdown? Haswell has some extremely good idle and sleep power numbers. Also USB 3.0 issues should be gone with Windows 8 and or if you use the USB 3.0 ports that are on hubs. The new sleep state is pretty deep and a lot of PSUs support it? That would solve having to set easytune every time for fans and it would solve the loading of easytune time. At least one of those will be fixed.

For uncore try BIOS B10, it has uncore fixed, it also has a fix which will allow multiplier change in windows without EIST enabled(both OC Touch and GTL) you can also try the 1.25x divider however efficiency with `1.25x is supposedly worse(i see no difference but i keep getting told its worse) and the way the OC board BIOS is right now, BCLK dividers trigger a different BCLk training procedure which will end up in a bunch of boot cycles.

Using Silent Mode atm, but whatever setting you use, when the CPU hits 70C it automaticly goes to 100%. But other than that SIlent Mode works rly well.

Just gonna limit my Fans with a reducer.

Beware of the Batch numbers, it seems the early batches need lots of voltage.

you guys should really start to also ask for where the CPU came from(its written on the CPU) , as that seemed to make a difference with ivy bridge.

I am just at the test stage, so I reboot quite often. My normal computer I switch on and off once a day. I just hope that applying the fan curve at Windows start will work in the future everything else would be quite pointless imho. Nobody wants to do even one extra mouse click just to activate the proper fan profile. Especially since I want to use 2 or 3 more fan headers from the mobo later to control the case fans automatically.

I tried that too but it seemed to cause more instability. Possibly because of the higher uncore. I also tried a higher BCLK and the 1.25x divider (with adjusting the DRAM and CPU mulitpliers downwards accordingly) but both methods seemed to be more unstable than just raising the CPU multiplier and keeping the uncore at 3900. I think keeping the uncore low and just trying to raise some other voltages in addition to vCore will give me the best chance to get a higher core overclock.

I think they feel most people will be fine with the fan settings in the UEFI, they are fine for the majority of people except those like you. However the issue is if they make them more complicated in the UEFI it becomes a real pain to set and then people complain even more. But yes easytune should be remembering the fan settings.

Uncore increases cause instability, however to improve stability the ring voltage helps a lot with uncore. 3900 is enough for 4.5ghz maybe a little more maybe 40x is a bit better, but yea I am pretty sure that is why Intel separated it from the CPU domain.

I'm using the display from the gpu lol. I know everything i setup right because every other gpu is booting just fine. With the 6950 I can hear it loading windows, but I get no display from it in any display port. I threw the card into my RE3 and it's working just fine. Never seen anything like it before.

okay so it might be a specific issue with that GPU. In my opinion you should contact gigabyte tech support, as they would be able to test it and tell you if its a specific hardware incompatibility and have it fixed in future BIOSes.

No need for extra complexity, just add a manual option with min/max fan duty cycle % and min/max temperatures to the BIOS. Then Gigabyte would make another 10% people happy and could match what other manufacturers offer wink.gif
