AMD FX 6300

Thread Starter
Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A - UD3
CPU: AMD FX 6300
Cooler: H60 push/pull
RAM: 8GB 1600
GPU: HIS 7870

So, this is my first time overclocking. I updated the bios and started with the process of learning how to overclock.
I raised the clock ratio (multiplier) to 22.5x (4.5 Ghz), increased Vcore by +.150V, disabled Core C6 and turbo. That's all I have done.

I booted up, ran Prime95 (Large FFT) for an hour. No errors so far, and the temps are at approx 42C.

Digging around the internets, 42C seems very low. I guess this is a good thing? Should I be greedy and go for more?

Go as far as you can. Just watch your temps and be sure to get adequate airflow over those vrms. Try upping the bus speed as well.

When tweaking, how long would you recommend I stress test on Prime95, or if there are other methods?

Depends, everyone has their own opinion for what is stable as far as stress testing goes. I would say ~12 hours would be fine. Take a look at this guide. It is really good and will help explain a lot of the minor tweaks.
