Dell U2713H Issues? - Page 2

rainbow overshoot is very bad when contrast is at 50, when you set it to 40 it takes away most of the overshoot.

Just for the record, Booblej originally had a MUCH cheaper 1080P Dell panel. He got a few that had issues and kept sending them back, and Dell eventually just upgraded him to a U2713HM, which costs double what his original monitor does. He had issues with this replacement too, so they eventually sent him an even more expensive U2713H that is worth almost 3 times the original panel he got. It is too bad that they have these quality control issues (which I have noticed on my U2713HM, although Dell monitors I have had in the past have not had issues), but they are clearly doing everything they can to satisfy their customers in the short term.

I don't really understand the "green tint all over the screen" thing; if you calibrate the monitor with a proper calibration tool it should be able to easily compensate for having too much green. A green tint on a monitor would only be an issue if you had no way to change the color (like if you were using it with a game console and it had no hardware color settings), or if it was only visible at certain viewing angles or when doing certain things. A general green tint should be fairly simple to get rid of.

One can only adjust the RGB Grain+Offeset values in the U2713H's Custom Color mode which uses its native gamut which extends beyond the Adobe RGB color space and has really high input lag (30ms).

The sRGB mode, Game Mode and Adobe RGB mode all have locked color settings and nasty green tints...in some images reddish shades were entirely absent on the U2713H.

Ghosting is obvious during movies, scrolling text, slow camera panes, ect. Dell has really dropped the ball on the U2x13H, 3014 and S2x40L/M models since they all suffer from some of the most obvious overshoot seen on monitors and lack overdrive settings.

Can't this color issues be compensated for via software calibration?

Probably yes. But one of the attractive points of buying from Dell is that you get your monitor calibrated out of the box. If you had to do additional calibrating, you might as well buy a cheaper brand.

At least Dell's customer service on these Ultrasharps are top-notch.

No. The Green value needs to be lowered in the menu in the Custom Color mode to get rid of the tinting. All modes but the game mode have really high input lag, but it has poor colors and uses the displays native color space which extends beyond the Adobe RGB color space.

The U2713H basically sucks for gaming due to the very high input lag, color space and obvious ghosting issues. Color space issues don't apply if one has no appreciation for artists efforts or care if the content they view looks the way the creators intended it to.

That is odd; why would Dell have their "professional" monitor not calibrated correctly? And why couldn't the green be accounted for using software gamma adjustments? Furthermore, what are you using to measure this green tint? Are you comparing it directly to a known calibrated monitor with your eyes or using a calibration tool to measure it?

That green tint isn't present on all U2713Hs - certainly wasn't on my review sample. There would likely be a different hue to whites and perhaps a bit of a green bias if you're comparing to a standard gamut WLED simply because of the addition of green as well as blue diodes. If it starts noticeably affecting neutrality of things like skin tones etc. then it seems either Dell have done a poor job of calibrating that unit or LG are still getting used to producing these GB-LED backlights. tongue.gif

It's not a professional monitor since the professional features (hardware calibration & software calibration) do not work properly. I use an i1 display pro and HCFR+basICColor 5 to measure the RGB levels as well as compare all my monitors to my "reference," display which at the time was a calibrated Samsung S27A850D.

Top left=U2713H sRGB mode, top right=U2713H after software calibration in the Custom Color mode+RGB adjustments, bottom left=ViewSonic VP2770 by default

The RGB levels were so out of whack that software calibration alone barely helped and the hardware calibration didn't either. The sRGB+Adobe RGB modes were basically useless due to the green dominance and red under coverage. Not everyone unit has the issue but I've read about many that do as well as receive reports from people on youtube.

That is not a valid reason to challenge my comment; regardless of how it performs, it is MARKETED and ADVERTISED as a "professional" monitor... The fact that it does not perform as such doesn't mean that this is no longer the case. My point was that it is odd that Dell would not properly calibrate the U2713H, given that my U2713HM was pretty well calibrated when I got it. Of course mine is not as wide of a gamut (only has about 84% of AdobeRGB) and isn't a 10 bit panel (or rather 8 bit + frc) like the H model.

Did you only have experience with 1 U2713H? Could it be that you have a defective monitor and not all are like this? Since Dell lets you return a panel until you get one that you are satisfied with, I don't think you can necessarily write off the entire model line if there are some that are ok. Did you talk to Dell at all about the issues?
